I like magic and quests and stuff like that, but once I fork out the money for the game, I do not want to continue to fork out money to play and that seems to leave me out of a lot of games now. I look on the box and it says you have to have internet access to play. I like to play on my computer with me and me alone. Any suggestions?

You mean you want offline singleplayer games, or free online MMO hack-and-slash (because, face it, none of them is a RPG)?
If the former, maybe you could tell us what you've played, and what kind of games you like. If the latter? Eh. Pristontale, Runescape -- they're probably what you're looking for.

I'm currently playing "Project Nomads". It's no RPG, but rather an Adventure, but also with things (elements) unknown to Adventures so far. It's a nice game and should be cheap by now.
Solo RPG games are more than enough out there, by the way.

2.99$ in Canada.
I played the demo a while ago and it was rather fun. Much better than Stratosphere, the game Project Nomads is based on. For some reason, few people liked it. If I recall correctly, HandEFood was a moderator on Project Nomads forums.

If I recall correctly, HandEFood was a moderator on Project Nomads forums. The game was rushed (by our favourite Divine publishing company...), hence it's medeocrity. The graphics are beautiful, though, and the game is a fun distraction. I do moderate the forum, but I wouldn't really call it a forum. More of a forgotten help desk...

Project Nomads Forums. But like I said, it's completely dead. There some old information there on save-game editing and walkthroughs.

@HandEFood...Just started playing American McGee's Alice, you played that didn't you? Got it for £5 and i've got to say it's well worth it, the graphics are to die for.

But the graphics are the only good thing to say about that game. It seems now American McGee works on Wizard of Ozz. I pity the fool who'll buy that game.

I mean like DD and DD2. I like playing a fighter or wizard and do not like to be on line when I play. I do not like the kind where it is first-person (I think that is what it is called - like DOOM). Those make my stomach ill .
I played all the Might and Magic, Baulder Gates and the like. I was thinking maybe that Neverwinter game might be fun.
When is DD3 coming out?

(in a good game way, not in a sexual way ) The gameplay is fairly average, but the graphics, concepts and level designs are amazing. But the graphics are the only good thing to say about that game. It seems now American McGee works on Wizard of Ozz. I pity the fool who'll buy that game. Hey, I'm looking forward to Oz. It's supposed to be as trippy as Alice but have more freedom to it, like Divine Divinity did.

whats DD? I think he means DD2 is Beyond Divinity. Beyond Divinity is actually a spin off, like Red Alert is to Command & Conquer.

if u haven't played Freedom Force, u should! it's RPG, with a twist. here's the official site. try the demo out to see if u like it. bioware recently has released a 'platinum' pack for NWN; which includes the original & the two expansions. u may want to check that out as well. now with most games requiring new rigs & accessories, i'm a bit out of the loops with game news. demos are safest so far in finding out how much u will enjoy particular games. have fun!

When is DD3 coming out? Neverwinter Nights is focused on multiplayer, and the official campaign of the original game is atrocious. Shadows of Undrentide is better, but not by much. About the only official campaign worth playing is Hordes of the Underdark. There are many excellent fanmade modules, however; I'll be glad to recommend a few. Oh, and try Planescape: Torment, if you haven't already.

I just finished the NWN OC. I didn't think it was that bad. Lots of hacking through low-exp monsters though. That was tedious. Chapters 3 and 4 were the best. Short and good rewards. Just starting SOU now. Characters are nowhere near as interesting as KoTOR though. Allthough Tomi was funny.

Red Alert is a prequel to Command and Conquer. I admit, when I saw McGee's Alice, I was rather annoyed: not only it's a lousy spin-off but the idea itself is a terrible one. Face it: some guy decided he should imitate McFarlane and here he is with a modified Quake engine.
As I already said, I prefer the "linear" KotOR to "unlinear" Morrowind. KotOR has choices that affect the gameworld to a greater scale. You have to make decisions, you need to carefully monitor your character... I never liked the Star Wars movies: the plot was flat (One very good and one very bad sides fighting. Bah) but KotOR adds moral dilemmas and philosophical questions to the SW universe, along with a powerful background. It's no longer good and bad fighting. As an example, both Jedi and Sith are extremal and, truth to be told, I like and dislike them both. Sith give freedom and value emotions, passion. Jedi value wisdom and inner peace. I disagree that KotOR is linear any more than NWN, Baldur's Gate or Divine Divinity (hell, DD had only one ending). Yes, I find the maps smaller than they should be, but that's all. And keep in mind: from all the RPGs I've cited, only KotOR trully gives you a cinematic experience (the travel FMV sequences are skilfully combined into what seems as one cut scene).

death ol' boy, i hope i didn't say that KOTOR is more linear than NWN, BG, or DD as that is just how i feel. linear. it's inevitable where the game is heading. & yet, linear games when done right are much more fun than non-linear ones. i hate morrowind to the core, so please excuse/execute me, morrowind lovers.
KOTOR though linear, story's tight to make it relevant to the game as u play it. u're playing with a purpose & not just levelling up. that's the kind of RPG i want, & not just to get at a higher level.
mcgee's alice is nice enough for anyone who has yet 2 venture into 3rd person action gameplay. if u want originality, go for MDK. or giant: citizen kabuto. or sacrifice. rules are a bit mind-boggling (at least for me) at first but u'll get the hang of it later on.
