I was bored and was digging through my cds and came across my divine divinity cds, and was like all right forgot about this game. My old computer sucked really bad and could barely play this game <.< . So i stick it in install it, all goes well no errors, i dl the patch, and install it. So im getting ready to play, I run the config, Set it to direct 3d, and 1024x768, and click test screen goes black and does nothing, so i have to manually start it with ctrl+alt+delete. Go back to the config, and choose direct draw and the same resolution it plays the little video with the glowy thing and it says it succeeded with 137 fps, yay!(is that even possible? thats what it said >.>). Then i click apply and close, and a error window pops up saying "Could not open font <fonts\fontn1.fnt>" and then it goes to desktop, i try to launch it again and it comes up with error
divinity was not correctly terminated the last time. it is recommended that all dynamic files will be cleaned up and that all configuration data will be resetted. Sall savegames will be still available afterwards.
Do you want to reset the configuration?
yes no cancel
i choose yes and do the direct 3d and with 1024x768 and it comes up with 79 fps. i click apply and close, and the font error comes back, so i launch it again and the termination error comes back up and click no this time, and it brings the font window back up again. So i cant play the game, what should i do?

Check that the font file actually exists; in Windows Explorer browse to the ' ..\Divine Divinity\Run\fonts' folder, or just search for ' fontn1.fnt' (should be 29,098 bytes). Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before trying to start the game, and did you do so before installing? I would try a clean re-install of the game, or use the file verification method described in the topic; Troubleshooting Tips (& manual install procedure)

Hello
When that happens in the config program i usually just set it to 1024 x 768 in direct 3d, but tell it to skip text, i think there is something wrong with that config program because if you skip the test then it works fine.
Also i never close any programs down at all, plus i ignore anyone saying to close virus scan and firewall down before installing and running of any game.
WARNING
Some game companies advice you to download the latest drivers ignore that, because last year i took that advice and updated my graphices drivers, i watched my windows xp die on me since there was a glitch in it that no one new about and the fact was i had an asus graphics nvidia card and nvidia drivers DO NOT WORK ON THAT CARD, which they said if i don't install these latest drivers they can't give me technical support, i think that is totally wrong.
Also another game company said to close a programs down while running the game that includes closing down virus scanners and firewall, well guess what the game was an online play game, so if you did close the firewall and virus scanner down while running the role playing 3d game, your would be in big trouble then on the internet, you would be open to atack and virus, you might as well give a stranger your front door key to your house at home.
I CLOSE MY VIRUS SCANNER DOWN FOR NO ONE, AND I THINK IF YOU DO CLOSE IT DOWN THEN YOUR ASKING FOR TROUBLE, THERE COULD BE A HIDDEN TROJAN ON YOUR COMPUTER THAT IS WAITING FOR YOU TO CLOSE YOUR FIREWALL DOWN AND VIRUS SCANNER.
Regards
Andrew

The configuration program does have a problem with the Direct3D test and some Radeon (and more rarely GeForce) cards / drivers. As you found, the game itself works fine if you skip the test.

yes tis true, and again, "sometimes"...you have to select the same res as your desktop is set at, for things to go smoothly, or, reset your resolution for your desktop to match that of either <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> or <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" />
that also....is true,
in some cases! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> like mine
