Larian Studios Forums Divine Divinity (English) General Item stats not showing

Ok so i just reloaded up my game after a long time of not playing and found some weird bug.

I picked up a staff and it had all the normal stats appear when i hovered over. So since i hadn't played in a while i figured i'd have a look at what i was wearing. Now i find if i hover over any equipped item, or unequipped armour/weapon in my inventory EXCEPT something picked up recently, it just says e.g. Long Bow, Weight 2. However potions, scrolls, charms, meat and other such stuff in my inventory from the previous save is showing correctly.

just checked, looks like i'm unpatched (sure i downloaded one, lol, oh well) so is this known and will a patch fix it? Thanks for any help/info.

It sound like there may have been a problem with the items.000 file in the saved game folder (which keeps track of the random stats on equipment). Do you have any previous saves you could try, to see if they also have this problem?

This is not a known bug, that I recall, so I don't know if the patch will fix it or not.

i have previous saves, yup <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> i'll try those, and also try the patch (might as well get that anyway) so i'll let you know. thanks

You could also try deleting all of the files in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\Dynamic' folder.
This folder is used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied from that folder when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start Divinity. If there was a corrupt file in that folder, deleting the files should fix the problem.
After that, try loading a save before you started playing again, then a current save.

hm well i'll try that but i was resorting to (after loading, having same prob, patching and still same prob) buying new stuff when i found out Geoff the blacksmith at Ars Magicana is trying to kill my game. Everytime i click "Trade" with him, DD encounters an error. Never had that problem before. Damn game. I'll go try deleting those files like you say

EDIT: tried that, and no luck. Also found that trying to trade with any character mucks my game up. I have another save for another character that seems to have saved the items correctly but i dont use that character, so now i guess i'll just have to start my lvl 22 archer all over again. thanks anyway

If you start a new game (or check the save that seems to have valid items), do you still have problems trading? If so, try backing up your saved games and doing a clean re-install;

just started the new game, didnt get a chance to check trading because i managed to annoy George(?) by taking his 'herb'! lol. oh well, i'll find out another day, gonna go to bed now :P

EDIT: just to let you know i can trade perfectly ok with my new character. Guess the old save file just got screwed up somehow... weird that the other one didn't though. oh well.
