Just bought the game and wanted to look for some advice before I started wasting skill points =)

Ok from what I have gathered so far I have a few skills I plan on investing in:

Freeze
Leech Life
Hellspikes
Devine Death
Curse
Lead Limbs
Meteor strike

But I am not really sure how many skill points I need to invest into each one, any suggestions? And also, there are some other cool looking skills that look usefull. Like repair, lockpick, identify, alchemy, enchant weapon, and the various vision spells, should I invest some points into these as well?

And another thing, should I be going into melee range with the monsters? Or should I be kiting them around and avoiding getting into melee range?

Hell Spike becomes quite effective on level 4 or 5. Meteor Strike can be cast very fast, and has a bit of a stunning effect, even on level 1. Survivor's Curse is better than the mage's version, since it can not be resisted. Elven Sight is much more effective than Ranger Sight.

If you want to build a battle mage then melee is fine, otherwise I would suggest a combination of magic with a bow.

Mage spell books can be bought, and some warrior / survivor skills can be given as quest rewards;

Now he tells me that I should use a bow if I don't whant to be a battlemage (and I've just finnished the game <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />! I never whanted a battle mage <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" />!).
