I've held off for a while, but I've finally entered the castle area to visit the new Lord Duke (the 12 year old kid). (The entire game has run smoothly until now.) The game went through it's automated scenes, where the duke declared me his new 'Lord Protecter' and so forth... then he instructed me to meet him in his room. It's recorded as a quest. Unfortunately, I've searched the entire area with no luck. I simply can't find the Duke ('divine one' - kid) anywhere. Which room is his? In any case, he isn't anywhere to be found. Is this a game error or is there something special I am supposed to do before being able to locate him? (Note: I've already talked to the cook and washed his dishes - no idea if that plays any roll whatsoever.)

My concern is that I may have waited too long to visit him. I already exposed Dr. Elroth and the plague problem (solved the quest). I've done most of the quests available on the starting map. I hope the game hasn't messed up...

Anyway, if someone could kindly help me out here, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you!

Update:

I've tried reloading old saved games to see if I could solve anything... I discovered that, upon entering the stronghold and meeting the Duke for the first time, I fail the 'Meet the Wizard Zandalor at the Dwarven Bread Inn' quest. What have I done wrong?! Did I hold out for too long? I was given no hint of any order requirement for completing quests.

I've already visited the Dwarven Bread Inn and talked to the other 'Marked One.' He told me that Zandalor went to the stronghold to find the 3rd 'Marked One.' My character responded with the idea to go searching for him. Unfortunately, when I go to the stronghold, it seems I'm only able to fail the quest.

I can only assume that I was supposed to visit the Dwarven Bread Inn earlier in the game (before developing a high reputation or completing other quests permitting me entrance into the stronghold; thereby triggering the 'Lord Protector' scene).
(Note: I've also noticed that a strange goblin wizard-like creature shows up when I initially enter the stronghold only when I have my teleportation pyramid on me - if I drop it before entering the stronghold, then the NPC does not appear - and takes my teleportation devices. I have no idea if this bit of information helps at all.)

I've already invested about 5 full (18 hours of game-play per day - only about 5 hours of sleep every 24 hours) days into this game. I'll be highly devastated if my game is messed up. I'm afraid I don't have any saved games from way back before I completed the quests for the other key NPC's (the female one at the outpost/stronghold - forgot name - and the guy at the burnt village near the southeastern corner of the map - also forgot name). Even if I did, I'd still be losing at least 36-54 hours of game-play.

Very similar problems interrupted my gaming experience for Morrowind and Arx Fatalis. In both of those games I eventually (after weeks of devoted gaming) ended up unwittingly doing something that would later stop me from progressing any further in the game (story came to an end prematurely - due to some wrong actions or disorderly course of progression).
(Explanations: In Morrowind I ended up killing a mob in self-defense - it attacked me first - not knowing that I wasn't supposed to do so. The fault was due to my walking past a guard without talking to him first, - hey, in a game with thousands of NPCs, you can't realistically be expected to talk to every single one of them in the order that you approach them - and being told specifically not to harm any of the creatures that might attack me. Anyway, it ended up making a required NPC refuse to talk to me - one that was required to progress in the game. It was an overall stupid bug in the game that ruined my whole experience and wasted a lot of my time.

In Arx Fatalis I ended up walking too fast into a room and facing in the wrong direction, thereby missing a certain scene that I guess was required for me to 'talk' to a certain NPC that soon after disappears from the game. This was another stupid bug. I guess I'm just unlucky...)

Anyway, I have nothing to do but bitc& and moan until I get some help with this game... I'll check back later.

(If anyone wants a copy of my saved game - to better assist me - please make a request for it. I will willingly give you a copy.)

I think you automatically fail the "Meet Zandalor in the Dwarven Bread Inn Tavern" quest just because he isn't there. No matter how quickly you get there he will always be off to Stormfist Castle. I don't think there is an option. And as far as the duke, go to his throne, and go through the door that is North East (if I remember correctly) of his throne. Janus will be in the first room there.

Someone will probably respond with a lot more information but this might be a quick fix until then.

Thanks for the reply, friend. I ended up loading an old save and actually following the Duke to discover where his room is located. Unfortunately, in my original save, the Duke is not where he is supposed to be. It must be a bug, because unless I follow him (keep him within view range), he disappears completely and is no where to be found... I'm no longer hung up on the Duke being no where to be found problem (although, if he disappears again, I may have more problems...).

However, I am still confused over the 'Meet the Wizard Zandalor at the Dwarven Bread Inn' quest. Are you telling me that this quest isn't meant (isn't possible) to be solved? Why would the game throw in a quest if it isn't meant to be solved (why not just tell me to go meet him, but not make it an official quest)? Please clarify. If the quest being failed is just part of the plot (meant to happen), then I'll gladly continue the game without any worries of it coming back to haunt me. (Please confirm that my waiting so long to visit the stronghold/go search for Zandalor this late in the game is acceptable. I've already cleared every single noticable place on the initial map, including the sewers, caves, buildings - underground and above - and etc. I've done every single quest (to my knowledge) available to me without the requirement of traveling to a new zone (new map - outside the 'initial one').

Also, can anyone touch on the little imp/goblin wizard-like creature I previous mentioned? Is he supposed to take my pyramids now? Should I just drop them out front before entering the castle, that way I can avoid losing them altogether? This quest/problem is a bit confusing...

Try walking around the duke's room close to the walls, checking the mini map. Sometime he hides, and only shows up when you get close. The first time I entered his room he was apparently not there, so I decided to loot his chest; when I was just about there he stepped away from the wall into sight.

It is an imp historian who shows up to 'borrow' your teleporter stones. If you do not bring one with you into the castle, he will either show up the next time you try to use them, or they will stop working until the point you would have gotten them back.

It is part of the main plot that you fail to meet Zandalor at the inn. There are several quests that are designed to fail, as well as quests where two opposing sides ask for your help, and you must choose which quest to complete and which to fail.

Okay... I've already gone through the castle scenes, quests, and gotten kicked out of the castle and then thrown in the dungeon. I just finally found my way out of the dungeon. I now have to go back in the dungeon to 'clear' it (fully explore and collect all the items within it). However, without my teleportation stones, clearing anything will take a very long time. I have well over 100 strength, but I still have to make frequent trips to the merchants to sell my loot. Thus, my next step must be to get my "borrowed" teleportation stones back. Please tell me how...

you get them back later in the game. (hint) find Zandalor.

I'll load the game and try to find Zandalor as quickly as possible (I hate getting ahead of myself). If anyone has any information or anything else to share, please do so. (I don't mind spoilers, as long as they're towards the goal of getting the pyramids back ASAP!)

In Iona's dungeon, you can just dump loot into barrels, and flag the locations on your map to return for when you have the teleporter stones back.

As Arhu the cat told you, Zandalor is in the castle treasure room, which can be reached from the Rivertown sewers. If you have already cleared the sewers, you should have found the entrance, which before getting the quest had a locked door you could not get past. If you joined the thieves' guild in Verdistis and have access to the sewer entrance in the poor section, that is the closest entrance (it is just south east of there), otherwise take the Ars Magicana entrance and head south and a fair bit west.

I have some additional, random questions.
(Please visit this thread more than once, as I'll likely have more questions added. I don't want to create a new thread for every single question I come up with. Also, I may end up posting more questions in a new post before anyone has a chance to respond to my previous post, so please check for any questions from prior posts that haven't been answered. Thanks!)

1. If I join the thieves guild by completing Rob's tests, will I still be able to join the other guilds as well (most importantly, the merchants guild)?

2. Upon becoming a new member of the thieves guild, when asked which skill I'd like to improve, what happens if I choose a skill which I've already maxed (is already level 5)? Will the opportunity be wasted or will he simply tell me to choose a different option?

3. Where are the healers from the starting town? They've supposedly been sent to the poor quarters of rivertown to help the plague victims. However, I can't find them anywhere. Can they be found at this point?

4. I found 2 cure potions from Dr. Elrath's house. Unfortunately, there are 3 plague sufferers. Where is the 3rd potion?

EDIT: Thank-you very much for the fast replies! I greatly appreciate it! =)

1- yes
2- don't choose it.
3- they are in the inn next to the poor quarter
4- there is no 3rd potion. You must thief one of the 2 first after giving the potion (pickpocket skill 2 is needed) or kill one of them (much more fun)

What's the point of giving them the potion to save their life, if I'm only going to steal it from them anyway (thereby killing them)? Is this the only means of curing all 3?

New Questions:

1. Are items stored in places, such as barrels or chests safe? Will they stay there or will they disappear after some time/event takes place?

2. There is a room towards the southwestern corner of the Sewers under the Thieve's Guild which I can't seem to enter. There are no apparent entrances, and the two things that appear to be gates don't permit entry. How do I get inside? I'd like to get to the chests!

3. There are various strange items that I've encountered through my journies. Unfortunately, I know not what purpose they serve. Some of these items include gems, Chemist's Set/powder/knives (etc), and a bottle containing an interesting object, called an 'Oddity.' What are these for and how do I use them?

4. I found a 'Romeo & Juliet' love letter in an empty house just southeast of rivertown market. What is it for? I've been carrying it in my inventory for a long time. Does it serve a purpose?

5. In the very first dungeon I explored (from the starting town), next to the very bottom level, there are two coffins. The coffin on the right side appears locked. There is not option to pick the log or attempt to use a key. How do I unlock/access this coffin?

6. I'm currently gathering up the seven members of the council. I went to get the human council member (forgot his name), and ran into a bunch of orcs in town. Anyway, they seem to have locked him inside his house, but I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find a proper key. I remember a hatch inside his house, and I vaguely recall a way to get inside his house via that hatch. Unfortunately, despite at least an hour of searching, I haven't found a way to reach the hatch to enter his house. I simply don't remember. Where is it? How do I unlock the door?

7. On an old quest, I was instructed to find a missing delivery of goods for a merchant in Rivertown. I found the cart (long time ago). When I went back to it, it had been destroyed. The quest still remains that I should investigate further and find his goods. I'm tired of searching and unless this quest is something that I'm not meant to discover just yet, then please tell me what to do...

8. The black market dealer in Rivertown has a stash of supplies somewhere - he recently told me. I cleared the entire map long ago. I've searched the southern and northern caves. I can't seem to find it. If it's truly "nearby," where is it? Without giving it away completely, can anyone give me a clue?

9. It is said that there is a hidden treasure in the garden somewhere. I've tried transforming into a frog and searching around, entering the water area, and following/talking to other frogs. Nothing seems to work. I've also tried standing on the platform where there should assumably be a statue. Without giving it away completely, can anyone give me a clue?

Gems are mainly what?

I already said that I was unable to attempt to pick the lock. There is no option for it. So how does it open?

Quote
8. seek something under the earth...
If it's from one of the caves, then there is a very strong chance that I have already cleared it and have taken all of the loot inside it. Does this mean that I'm unable to solve the quest, since I received it after already accomplishing it?

As you can see, I had a lot of questions to ask. Searching for them all via the search feature would have taken time. It's a lot easier and faster to simply ask them all at once, via a post. If you don't like my questions, then don't bother answering them. However, I do greatly appreciate the help. (I'm sure I'll end up asking more questions that have "already been asked." I'll ask them again anyway.)

ad 5 - the two coffins: This is the entrance to the next lower level. The graves open, when you open the four around them (you found that out already)- Either of the middle ones is the entrance downstairs - irrespective which of the two you choose, it will bring you to the same point, and the other one will be automatically locked forever. No mystery there - no opening need or possibilty either.

ad 8 - In the middle of Ars Magickana marketplace is a possibility to go "underground". If you turn east then, soon you will hear the hiss of the singing blade

i didn't mean to be agressive, sorry if it sounds like that ...
i just think that as many as we are on this forum if everybody was opening a thread with all questions about the game it will be really messy but do what you want...
anyway it isn't a bothering thing to answer... IT IS FUN!

1. What about the various plants and herbs I discover? What is it for and how do I use it? Can it be gathered and sold to merchants?

2. I can't find that key to free the human council member from his house anywhere! I looked in the Elf's house. The doesn't seem to be there. Where is it?!

3. After the 'Fireworks' quest was failed (by choice), I believe I reported Anthrabert to the guards and they took him prisoner. Now, I'm at the point where I'm supposed to visit him to recover the wine bottle required for the summoning quest given by the summoner. The quest says that Anthrabert is supposed to be at the Inn, but he isn't there. Where is he??

4. I returned to the graveyard and went back underground (where I was initially imprisoned after being kicked out of the castle). I cleared the entire tunnel, but on the bottom level (where I had to kill the Boss MOB) there is a locked chest. I wasn't able to find any keys for it, and my level 5 lock picking skill is insufficient. How do I open this chest?

1. drag and drop empty bottles on the herbs, mushrooms, and cacti to make potions. the color of the plant will tell you what potion you are getting.

2. once you head toward the Lanilor's house, an old lady should attack you. mabey she dropped the key. or it is in the house.

3. the bottle should be in the room Anthrabert was in.

4. to open the chest, hmmm. i think it has something to do with the skull on the top of the chest.

You need the Alchemy skill to make potions. Alchemy Guide

The key should be straight into Lanilor's house, on the shelf with a plant and banner. Try hitting the alt key. If that doesn't help, you can get another key;
Lost Items - guide and directory of inventory files

If the exquisite wine bottle is not in Anthrabert's room, Corinna will accept regular wine as well.

Drag the skull into your inventory, then click on the chest.

The witch didn't drop the key and the key is not inside the house, on the shelf or otherwise. It must a bug. (I'll check out the link you provided.)

Drat! I remember drinking an exquisite wine way back when I first visited this town. This was way before the quest. I did not know it was a quest item! I'll try using another wine bottle (with my luck, I doubt it'll work).

Thank-you both for replying! =)

New Question:

1. Is there anyway to complete the 'Do I want to Summon a Demon' quest without failing it? When we summon the demon, it spawns "out of control" and kills the female, then proceeds to attack me. When I slay the demon, the quest automatically shows up as failed. Is it because I didn't use the exquisite wine (and instead, used whatever wine I had on me)?

The wine was not the problem in the summoning. You need the talking tree branch from the Dark Forest, not the one from Mpenzak. If you notice during the ceremony, the fake branch is the only item not to be removed from the pentagram.
