not necessarily - really important characters can't be killed (at least if you patched your game, which is strongly advised!)

But the point is, you should find a way to kill Jake, as it will boost your level. Get yourself some healing potions, the strongest weapon you can find (or are you a mage? => Meteorstrike) and try hit and run tactics

or you could just reload and not put the flowers on the grave. Jake is extreamly strong in the beggining.

Meteor strike + 1 mana potion is enough to kill him.

Hmm-a great many "Quests" apparently are so Linear that you can screw up
very easily without ever knowing that you have. I never met Jake's Wife
or ever knew about taking Flowers to his grave but I did Kill Jake!
Now I'm wondering about all the other things I have most likely "Missed".
The "Only" thing I ever saw with His wife was a cut-scene where Jake tells Her
-"Come with me to the Grave" and off they go---and that was all I ever saw.
Weird stuff.

It wasn't his wife, Sigarr. The lady he kidnapped was just one he wanted. His wife is only "existant" in form of a tombstone in Aleroth - and was no quest. The only tip you got was on Jake's tombstone in Aleroth => about not wanting any flowers. As the grave next to his had flowers... simply replacing them via drag&drop lead to his anger <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> - and then you could kill him for a second time in Aleroth by entering his locked house (key in barrel) and his cellar.

If you missed this part in Aleroth and met Jake in the poor quarter cemetery, you couldn't trigger the earlier 2 fights anymore. I liked killing Jake at the beginning 2x with meteorstrike, as I got 2 lvl-ups pretty quickly and was prepared in a better way for the Aleroth catacombs.
