I started a character before installing the 1.45 patch. The original install was 1.0 and I hadn't installed any other patches prior to 1.45. I don't think I'd entered the battlefield for Act 1 yet, but that was a while ago, so I might have had the first key before I installed the patch. In any event, I have searched the third level of each dungeon dilligently and even tried some unusual actions (putting things in the blue bowls that appeared in one dungeon) to get the quest items and I cannot solve two of the five quests.

I kept a save of Act 1, thinking I could come back and solve them once I found some hints to help, but now I'm having the same problem in the Act 2 quests. I have slashed my way through all six dungeons to the third level and half of the quest items are no where to be found.

Did the patch mess up my quests? Will this be solved when I create a fully 1.45 character? (I do plan to play the game through more than once.) It's not a big deal, but I'm a purist for solving quests and this is frustrating. I've seen hints at this problem, but I want to make sure it's a real technical issue and not just me. I am an avid and experienced RPG gamer, so I'm not just "missing" the quest items.

I've gone back and searched through the inventories of the merchants to see if I inadvertently sold a quest item to another merchant, but I didn't. From other posts, it appears that all quest items are on one of the third level dungeons and are either on the floor or dropped by a boss. If that's the case, the items that solve my quests are clearly not there.

I did notice that a "stone cap of somethingorother" appeared in the wall in the main game around the place with the sick imp. I thought it was in the room you can't enter, but when I finally got to that room (with the two staircases), the cap wasn't accessable from that room either. I noticed that a lot of the monsters in the battlefield dungeons are inaccessable (I see red dots on the map, but they appear in the dark areas that aren't part of the floor plan). I'm wondering if my quest items are sitting in that dark area as well.

I should note that all quests that involved a boss (Abe, etc.) were solvable, in that the boss was in one of the dungeons and dropped the appropriate item. But the other non-boss quests ("Please find my ####") were not. There were no loose items sitting around the third level dungeons for me to retrieve.

I hope that helps!

this is not an uncommon problem, regardless of patch version.
many battlefield quests suddenly change, are repeated, or are simply unsolvable.

my best suggestion is to just ignore those you can't complete. it only caused frustration or the feeling you've somehow missed something. it's not you.

in act IV i had to finish the game with (IIRC) 4 of the 5 merchant quests unsolved - you'll find out why when you get there.

just have fun doing as much as you can (solving-wise) and don't think about what you can't finish. thankfully, it doesn't matter at all except for a minor XP loss - no effect on game.

BTW, if the act 1, level 2 BF dungeon had monsters in it, you installed the patch before first entering the BF. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

If you wish you can get outside of the dungeon walls with the wayward monsters, but that is not necessarily going to help with the missing quest items.
