You sure can use these trap kits. All you have to do is wait for act 2. There are no teachers for these skills in act 1. Once you have learned trap converting skills from any of the teachers in act 2 or beyond, you're on your way. Just invest some skill points in your favorite trap and go out and get 'em.
You will have to keep traps in the inventory of the character that will use them. Trap conversion is easy, you just have to equip them in the second skill slot and click where you want to use them.
Beware though, traps can run out quickly. So, build up a good stock.
My favorite is spikes. I use scorpions also.
