I got an email .. from the web bot of this forum that stated that someone requested a temp password for my account. Seems someone was trying to steal my account. I am glad the system you guys have in place works good.

Damn thieves.

That's pretty scary. I'm glad you've got the sense to avoid it.

Thanks for that! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

What could they gain from a Larian forum account?

The only things i can think of, is either:

1. THey wanted to register, your nick was already in use, so they tried to get the password for it. (either out of ignorance / stupidity/ click happy), or they KNEW what they were doing, and thought they could jump the system.

2. ITs someone that has been here before, and either made BAD enemies here (probably due to attitude), or got banned, so now they trying to get back in, but as someone already on the forum... in which case you will have a split personality / evil twin.

But i am glad it didnt get to that point <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Oh, *blip* , that sounds really scary ...

What I know is, that there seem to exist scripts for automated registering in Forums, and then the users have nothing in their profile, except a dubious website.

It is possible someone used that nick in the old forum, assumed all accounts were carried over (they were not) and was just trying to 'reactivate' it. I didn't check the error message given when a nick already exists, but it may also have been an accidental click on the wrong button.

Yes, that sounds plausible to me.

Sounds good.. but I registered this name a while back. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Kinda got away from playing Divine Divinity. I Would have gotten Beyond Divinity but..unfortunately the copyright protection scheme used is totally incompatible with my pc.

See I got this other game that also uses STarforce an adventure game. and I never could get it to run. So because of this I Am not buying Beyond till its bargain basement and then I can waste 10 bucks and find out if I Can get it to run.

its really upsetting cause I loved Divine Divinity.

I really Hope if Larian is working on a sequel to Divine that they try a different
scheme. Because it causes lots of problems. Ticks me off because I buy every game under the son. And only 1 title doesn't run on my pc and thats the starforce using variety. and I Don't have clonecd installed or virtual drive or any such nonsense
running on my pc. sigh.

I got a bone to pick with you.

I'm curious, which adventure doesn't work in your case? Maybe Syberia2? I'm just asking, cause I have 3 Starforce games on my PC and no probs.

Even if you do have problems with starforce, if you send Larian the error report from it, they will send you a "authorisation file" back which will make starforce bypass the normal checks. (its only valid for the one specific Pc you installed it on).

Starforce is "fixable" if it doesnt work on your system for some or another reason <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
