After playing the game for a week or so, my computer caught a virus and I had to strip the hard drive and do a factory restore. When reinstalling the game, it asked for a cd key code. I've looked for it everwhere....on the cd, on the box, and in the game manual. No luck. Can anyone help me? And, if possible, where can I get a key code so I can continue playing the game. Any suggestions?
Thank for your help. Elaine [color:"blue"] [/color]

Well, I also looked all over the box, and nothing... Have you tried like, restarting and trying again ?

The Australian English version of the game uses a CD key, but the UK / North American versions do not. With those, the error message mentioning a CD key means that it found the install disk (CD 1) in an optical drive, rather than the play disk (CD 2).

If you are using the play CD, try different optical drives, if available.

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before trying to start the game?

If that doesn't help, there may be a conflict between the copy protection and some driver that is different than before the re-install. In the error message, click the 'Information' button, then when that finishes, click the 'View Report' button. Save the resulting text file somewhere, optionally zip it, and email it to Larian (support@larian.com) with a description of the problem. They can create a file the copy protection can use to check your system on startup, rather then the play CD.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I'll give it another try and see what happens. The game was working great <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> before I had to do a restore. That and I installed a new video card, but all the drivers have been updated, so should work ok. I'll make sure to turn off Norton's and zone controle...ect. as well as using the play cd to run the game with. Then see what happens. Thanks again.....I'll give you an update later. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" /> Lady E
