I recently installed divine divinity. However when I download the 1.34 patch and try and install it the patch says that it's the version 1.0 patch. Also after I install the patch, The maps still do not work. the minimap is a blank grey square. And the map on the diary screen doesn't work all that well either. When I open patch.log it says

Divine Divinity Patch V1.0 - 13-03-03 - English.

I've tried reinstalling the game and then reapplying the patch but that doesn't work either.

does anyone know how to fix the problem, or how to get a working version of the 1.34 patch?

The patch installer says it is version 1.0 because it is the first official patch release (well, 1.33 was, and 1.34 was a minor update). Check the bottom right of the screen on the main menu in the game; with the 1.34 patch installed, the game version listed should be 1.0034A.

For the problem with the map, try going into the game options (under graphics, IIRC) and changing the quality settings. Someone else had a problem with their CD-ROM reading the some of the automap files off the CD during install, but changing the quality setting got the automap working.
