I get a skill point each time I level up, but what about an extra point in attributes?

I have found all sorts of gear that my characters are nowhere near being able to use and I'm level 6 now. How do you boost those stats, such as Dex and St?

You get five points every time you level up and you can add these in your inventory (where you see your stats).

So I've reached level 6 and I have level 1 stats?! LOL No wonder I have been finding this game so hard. I didn't see anything to click in the inventory screen - I will have a closer look. Thanks.
