in order to enter M.'s house, simply click on his well nearby and descend, you will find a ladder there leading into the house <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

Before rescuing Lanilor, you may want to visit his house (just north of Mardaneus' place) and loot it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" />

or you could just loot it when you have rescued lanilor (but do it sneaky like <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif" alt="" />)
