I gave myself level 138 at the begining of the game and ended up at level 142 and finished the game ending xp total of 958,355,018. I didnt do every quest but the main ones to get through the game.

If you want to do this it's pretty easy with a good memory editor.

I like Artmoney found through Xcheater.com website.

http://www.artmoney.ru/

The link to directly download the editor.

Steps are as follows:

Start Divine Divinity and create your character, get out of the healers house, let the conversation between Lanor and the Wizard take place, run down to the well and go down. Kill a rat! Should be 50 xp.
Open up the stats window that shows your xp level and so on.
Alt-tab out.

Start Artmoney, choose divine divinity as the program to be edited in memory at the long bar on top, looks liek a web adress bar but when you click on it, it will show you programs in memory that are running to choose from.

Then do a search on the xp 50, It might be different for harder levels I killed a few and saved one rat for last with 1800 xp.

After searching you should coem up with a few hundred memory locations with the amount you searched for.

Alt-tab back in and kill a nother rat.
Alt-tab back out. Now choose Sieve button, search for the new xp amount.
This might take a few times to get down to 2 memeory locations depending on the amount of xp you have. It always works better with a larger xp amount to search for.
When you get it down to 2 Sieve results, save your game before doing this.
Double click on the last 2 search results so then end up on the right hand side.
Now you can edit the amount. 90 mill is a good try.
Make sure you change both amounts, sometimes making sure you wait about 10 sec to see the change work.
Now alt-tab back in you will see the new xp and the xp needed for level.
Kill the "saved" rat. You shoudl shoot up about 140 levels and get about 130 spell points to distrubute and 600 skill points to use on strength, intel and such not.
Before you start using the spell points up, do a search and sieve on then for another 50 to keep the memeory slot in check. I did this so that later on I needed more spells I could always edit the memor from 0 left to whatever I needed. Or just do 500 or so edit I doubt you would use them all.

Yes I know this is a vagrant hiedeous cheat but I noted after getting to the 3rd level honestly some large mini boss mob would kill me dead really quick and I didnt like it.

I would like so see some better dmg on the weapons that level 40+ creatures drop. I seem to get a ton of staffs that I have to sell or drop so I don't become encumbered. A nice spell would be turn to gold but at a reduced amount of value.

Money is alot trickier to edit and have only had success 2 times. But With the added levels you didnt need super armor and weapons with 200 strength. Also when starting early at a vastly increased level, items found in the villages seem to be level concurrent as I was getting 200 ac platemail from the standard locations in the first town and really nice weapons.

+ Note when you go into the store the first time and discuss the merchants need for herbs, let him go into the second room by himself, do not follow so soon. Get the key on the top of the display case in the corner. Take everything.
This works well when ever a person isnt in the room, and some of them will scold you but let you take stuff anyway.

Have fun.

thats all very cool and all, but personally ilike to fight it out and gain what i gain, even if i wish i could have unlimited money, or endless life or stuff like that, somehow...in the end it makes it more enjoyable.

Here, here... whats the fun in cheating, you don't get any sense of achievment, and your only cheating yourself. The odd hint here and there is different in my opinion,to get you through, otherwise you could give up when you are completly flumuxed and never finish the game.

On the other hand, thanks for the mention of the program; it could come in handy for poking around.

A less elaborate way to do the same thing would be to use iZakaroN's SaveEditor to edit the experience points.

For gold, assuming for some strange reason you are running short, you can just drag and drop a stack of anything out of your inventory, and hold the control key down before dropping. A split stack pane will pop up; you can type in a negative number and hit the enter key to end up with a lot more items than you started with.
