laptop status. memory corrupted working on 256mb and still crashing might be HD or MB related hardware fault. in eitehr case to expensive to repair vs new PC

@ morbo
Check what memory you have in the laptop....most brands have a lifetime waranty now so if its anything like kingston, twinmos, Adata etc.... they all lifetime. ( i know i havnt mentioned many brands.... for lack of being able to think through this many pain killers (slipped a disk in my back), but MOST brands are covered.

anybody ever thought (maybe it's only me) what that lifetime means in lifetime warranty. sure as heck it won't be as long as the buyer's lifetime. its own lifetime, that i'm sure of. what if the manufacturer says that the lifetime is 2 years?
morbo, if memory is corrupted, might as well get a new one. no point delivering, just get one from your local computer shop. that way, it's easier to claim warranty. & make sure the shop has good after-sales service.

lifetime warranty = as long as there is a use for that type of memory....
(other than increasing memory speed) there is a perfectly logical reason why memory types change.... along with everything else that carries lifetime waranty's

Ars Technica just released their latest recommendations, complete with prices, on a budget box, hot rod, and god box. It is definitely worth taking a look at. Ars System Guide

My main concern is whenever I should buy til X-mass or not... And the reason is: How much will the prize drop after New Year? Speculations, please (since you know FAR more than me...).

why don't you look at building it yourself?
shop around for what you want it could save you some money and allow you to do more.

PS Cleg: I'm aiming at getting someone else to build my computer together... I'm not the kind of guy I would trust on that kind of thing (I was planning to use it, you know) DS

Ube, have that someone to supervise u installing your own system. believe me, it's quite fun assembling your own system & see it work wonderfully later on.
just make sure u take precaution; anti-static band to prevent damage on electronic components. i don't have such worries in malaysia as the weather's always too humid for electrostatic charge build-up, unless i'm in a air-conditioned room.
another thing; manual books are your best friends.

Looks good except I hate Norton--its probably bundled in anyhow. Maybe you can get a decrease in price if you don't buy the speakers. Then use your headphones and stereo system for sound. That'swhat I do.
