what is with that in the main menu ???
is it some metaphore for multiplayer or what??
coz i haven't been able to click it yet.

That menu option is only available after you have completed the main game.

Those battlefields aren't MP. They just allow you to kill an endless amount of monsters. You can only enter them with a char who has beaten the game, and then there are infinite numbers of battlefields with the monsters going up in level along with you so you always should get good exp. And you can then endlessly level your char (till you die of boredom, that is <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />)

During the main game, the battlefileds are a separate area you reach by finding a BF key. They consist of a 5 traders, and several 3 level dungeons (3 in act 3, 6 in acts 2-4). Higher level BF keys will open additional dungeons.
The BF dungeons are randomly generated the first time you enter each act (the option appears on the secondary skill list by the characters' portraits after you have found a key in each act). Monsters do not respawn.
As LiraLindriel explained, the after game BF allow you to endlessly generate new BFs.

Do you get to keep the Death Knight or is it just the Main Character after the game is finished?

It is just the hero in the after game battlefields.
If you save before changing levels and entering portals, you will have an opportunity to unlearn any skills the DK knows and learn some summoning doll upgrades, to level them up or transfer skill points to them.
