I was hoping that I can control my main character but the DK would follow my main character automatically.
Any chance of a patch adding this feature?

Nope.

"you need the DK, i can't see what the problem is here"

Yes, I want the Death-Knight to follow my character without me telling him to do so.

Press F4 to select both caracters... F5 to swop the leader (will have a yellow trimming around the character portrait)

You can also do more advanced things by right clicking on the character portraits and going through the settings in there.

Note: only the character that is NOT leading will be agressive even if you set both characters to agressive. This is a handy feature, when your non leading char, is an archer... check it out <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

You can also ctrl-left-click on character portraits to add them to the group (ie to include the DK, but leave a summoning doll where it is, to be used as a mule). The leader's portrait is highlighted in gold, while any other members of the group are highlighted in white.

In a group all characters will attack or move with the same command. If you want to control just the hero, right click on the DK's portrait and select 'aggressive' to have him attack on his own. This works great for archers, and good for melee characters, except that they can occasionally run into groups of opponents when waiting or withdrawing would be better. AFAIK mages will not auto-attack with spells.

Think Dungeon Siege. Automated PC's.

I select my main hero(no one else), run around and use my main hero without clicking on my other PC's.
My other PC's who haven't been clicked on automatically follow my main character without user intervention.

EDIT:
Thank you Mr/Ms(Too many guys with female names) Lady_Rain.
Worked like a charm.

I set my mage as the main character which I have full control and my DK as an automated shock trooper.

Glad we could help (and in this case, lady = female <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />)

There is a reason for the other char's not folowing automatically, there are a few places in the game, where you need to seperate your char's to pull levers in in a specific place, while your other char goes through the door it opens, and then in return pulls a lever on the other side, so its companion can go through...

if it was auto follow, this would be impossible.

Not if it's done like it was in Dungeon Siege.
An option to turn auto control could be implemented as well.

I'm willing to do this in my own spare time as well if Larian would give me the portions of the source code that's needed.

the risk of introducing more random bugs in the game would be too high, so dont get your hopes up about getting the code. Its been done in the past, where character behaviour was changed, only to find a million random bugs that was caused by that <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

I think there will always be space for change in a game, and hopefully for the better, but i do not think that the current way of doing it is inferior in any way.

If DD2 has multi characters, i sould suggest adding the ability to assign groups though. Like in most strategy games, where you can select a certain group of minions, assign for example the number 1 to them, and have that group selected whenever you press 1. This idea is almost useless though in BD, since mainly you only have 2 char, its easy enoug to switch between them, there are shortcut keys for both char's. I cant really include summoning dolls to this idea, since you cant run around over the whole map with a summoning doll, they are "chained" to the area they were summoned in.

I am not against your idea at all, i do see the value in it, i just dont think the current way of doing it insuficient. If the party was lets say 5 char's big, then i would agree with you totally, or at least expect the grouping to be implimented, but 2 char's is perfectly easy to control.

I'm a very good programmer, I have a lot of experience and have worked with C++ since I was 13. I have absolute confidence in my ability to implement new features and fix bugs.

I'm more than willing to implement new features, offer support and bug fixes if BD's or DD's source code is ever released.

If you are really serious about it, you are welcome to mail or pm lynn, maybe she can arrange it, but i wont be very optimistic, copyright issues, ownership or inteligent assets (software) and all those legalities are more complicated than even i want to understand.

Unfortunately you are right.
When I develop/modify software I never think about the legal side.

Couldn't I sign a contract through a fax machine and have 2 witnesses that would tell a Larian representative that I signed the contract and the representative could record the confession by phone?

The representative could also explai nhte legal mumbo jumbo to me as well.

On the other hand it does seem like a complicated matter and as I have learned through my legal experiences that legal issues aren't things that go away and they do have severe repercussions.

I think the realities of our lives and environments (like legalities), is the very reason RPG's are so popular <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I would much rather settle a dispute with a crosbow/sword, than have someone i dont even like(judge) tell me that i am wrong.

And with that note, i am off to go settle some disputes with my sword, i remember some imp shaman who insulted me...... (off to go monster slashing_
