I've done the first thief guild quest, which is pickpocketing the drunk. I've been downstairs and done the lockpicking quest. Rob also gave me another level of pickpocket. But now when I talk to him, he just says something about "having a set of lockpicks, and should be able to open the lock". However, my quest log does not tell me what I need to do. What does he want me to do? At least if I do it I might get the reward, as sometimes heppens.

Worse, nobody will sell me any lockpicks. I have none. None of the thieves have any to sell, Tingalf is long gone, and I am truly stuck. Where can I get some lockpicks, if not from the thief guild? No point in having level 5 lockpick without lock picks. This could pose some pretty serious problems for me.

When you lockpicked the door to the north in the cellar, did you pick up the bottle of wine and bring it to Rob right away? That quest should have been cleared if you have joined the guild. In any case, Rob doesn't do anything for you other than place some markers on your map, give access to the guild and teaching you a level of a skill.

Blake in Ars Magicana and Mpenzak in Verdistis sometimes have lockpicks.

Did you start the game after installing the 1.34 patch? If so, Finnigan in the Ducal inn cellar sells survivor supplies, including lockpicks.

Finnigan also gives you a quest to steal a set of magic unbreakable lockpicks. If you started the game after installing the patch you can steal them, give them to him to complete the quest, then buy them back. If you started the game before installing the patch, keep the lockpicks and leave the quest unfinished, since you can not buy them back. Even if you don't care about lockpicking, they have another nice attribute... Spoiler : while in your inventory, they give you a +20 agility bonus (highlight the text to read).

HaHmm - for the sake of being correct <beer>, respectively ale (if you consider that beer )

That's funny - Finnigan has never had any lockpicks. Maybe I need to bribe him?

I have managed to pick up quite a few in the odd dungeon and the lizards seem to carry them around, too.

Blake has actually turned out to be the best source.

If you started the game before installing the latest patch, Finnigan doesn't have much of anything. In games started after the patch, he should carry survivor supplies, potions and various equipment.
Get the magic unbreakable lockpicks.
