In DD, I could access to skills of other character types as my character leveled up.

In BD, do I have to learn them?

To illustrate, I cannot access any arrow skills and defensive skills for my level 8 archer in BD. Must I learn them somewhere?

Hi,

You'll need to find NPC trainers throughout the game or go to the battlefields and the merchants over there will be able to teach you the skills you desire.

In act 1, Rupert in the Citadel Grounds teaches the bow skill to level 5, or Olaf in the BF teaches it to level 6. For the crossbow, Olaf teaches it up to level 3. There are other teachers in later acts, and the BF traders can teach higher levels in later acts.

Olaf also teaches select Arrow Proficiency skills depending on the act (can teach all of them in act 4 and 5). There is a book you can find close to the end of act 2 that teaches all the proficiencies up to level 5.
