@ Janggut
I heard about the terrible earthqueek on the news and just wanted to know if you're allright. If so, I hope your family is ok as well and everybody you know in Malaysia. I hope the people in Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka will get back on their feet real soon and that their families may be allright! To anyone else on this forum who's from that region also: [color:"red"] "Be strong & hang in there, the rest of the world is about to help you out!!" [/color]

Well said Galadriel, I know lots of ppl in that area being in Australia, so it nice to see that other ppl care ... to at least try to help even if it is only by sympathy.

All my sympathy to everyone in those areas, and i sincerely hope and pray that all the people we know in those areas are safe and unharmed, along with their friends and families.

hello everyone! i love all of u! thanks for caring so much. malaysia got a wee bit of it, thanks to the island of Sumatera (west of malaysia, see Straits of Malacca) which sadly got the brunt of the tidal wave & the quake. saddest of al are the people of Sri Lanka, who got it very badly as they're the nearest to the epicentre. fortunately there wasn't enough build-up of the tidal wave to make it extra bad for them. indonesia (especially the island of Sumatera) & Thailand (island of Phuket) were hit very badly with tsunami hitting them. west coast of west malaysia was hit by waves up to 5 metres (approx 15 feet). fortunately it wasn't so bad; some buldings have cracked walls, people shooked up. there are fishermen lost at sea, presumable hit by the tsunami. The Star; malaysian newspaper New Straits Times; another malaysian paper u can read about our home news as well as news of neighbouring countries there. blessed be God though, my island of Borneo (east malaysia) wasn't hit. let's pray for those who are lost & who are left behind to suffer the losses.

This has affected the lives of many here in America, friends, families, and religions. It has been the major broadcast on all of our major news stations since day one. America is sending millions of dollars of relief aid to help as many as possible in this crisis.
My heart goes out to those who have suffered loss. Take care

I'm really glad that everything is oke with Janggut and his family. It's strange indeed, the first thing that came up my mind was the fact that Janggut is from that region. If I read all the replies on the topic I'm not surprised of the fact that so many people responded with their support and affection. This forum is indeed one of the nicest & most kind that I know of . In Belgium there are 5 organisations that joined forces to help out. We talk about the Red Cross, Unicef, Oxfam, Caritas and Handicap International. We in Belgium can donate money on this account: 000-0000012-12. I hope our Belgian forumfriends will give something even if it's only a couple of € . Thanks a lot for your help and keep your fingers crossed that there won't be another one like they have predicted! De aardbeving in Zuid-oost Azië/Earthqueek in South East Asia

Glad you are well, Jang.
Hopefully the Indian Ocean countries will implement a tsunami early warning system like they have in the Pacific that apparently saves lives. Apparently up to a few hours of warning, depending on location, could have been given had such a system been in place.

I agree, even if there was only an hour warning in the affected countries, could have reduced the number of tragic casualties by half. People could have been evacuated off the beaches, at least taken some form of shelter. I am not saying that casualties could have been avoided, but with a warning system, i recon that the figure could have been down to a count of 15 000, if not less.
I am also hoping that there wont be any serious aftershocks, or any more earthquakes
I also agree that this is one of the nicest forums with the most cosy athmospheres

thanks so much for being such kind souls, everyone.
@ spick -> God bless u for such kind thoughts. @ galadriel -> for opening the thread & have people aware of the sad event & also for helping out, u have my gratitude & like spick, u must be heaven-sent.
@ Mea, Egin, Bean, Seth, Morbo, Lady Rain, Kyra, Lynn, Cleg -> u people are Godsent too!
yes, malaysia is planning to have an early warning system & i think we will collaborate with our neighbours, indonesia & thailand as well as the nearby islands such as maldives. we will seek advice from the japanese who know such problems too well. for malaysia it's very devastating as we don't experience major calamities regularly; no major floods, earthquake, tsunami, typhoon, etc. more & more are found missing.
again i say malaysia can handle its own casualties for now. it's the countries such as indonesia & sri lanka that need help from the rest of the world.
i feel blessed to have all of u here with me in prayers for the victims.

Like galadriel says, I think we should all donate some money. The account number for the Belgian people is 000-0000012-12.

Yes, it's terrible from what I've heard. Today there was a spech of the CHancellor of Germany, and he expressed his grief about that. Whole Germany is advised to put their flags on half height, meaning something terrible has hapened (mostly used for death of famous politicians).
A good friend of mine works sonce one or two years in Indonesia. I see him only once in a year (on a birthday party of another goodfriend), and that will be shortly after (christian) new year. Then he must go back to Indonesia (was his vacation here) and I eypect this to be our maijor theme at talking. I hope I can get some information how I can help, maybe I'll give him some money (if he can use it). But rather I should donate something, I guess.
Alrik.
