A Hearty 2005 Greeting to All,
Hopefully the almighty Lynn will be able to let me know if I stand a snowballs chance in hell of getting BD to run on my current system?
Well I finally got Beyond Divinity for my birthday(1/8/05 woo hoo) and am kind of bummed because it appears as if I will not be able to play BD until I get a new computer! Currently I am running a P3, 600Mhz, 640MB RAM, WIN98SE, plently of hard drive space, upgraded my Nvidia GeForce, got DX 9, but I am still not getting passed the config screen. Am guessing the 600Mhz is what is prevneting me from being able to run this game ? I realize 800Mhz is a minimum requirement, but I thought if I was able to lower the settings I might still be able to get it to run and I generally like to use 800 x 600 for my screen resolution, but it keeps giving me the the following error messages:

Since you dont meet the requirements at the moment.... dont try 800x 600
Run the confic seperately (Start, menu, larian studios, Beyond divinity, configuration)
Try the 640 x 480, FSAA mode 0, NO FOG. (if the reset button is click-able, click it to make sure that there are nothing in the dynamic folders)
Then click on apply and close (DONT TEST) and see if you can get to run the game...
other than that... maybe lynn has some secret tricks up her sleeve.

Thanks M'Lady for the very quick reply, I did try that several times just to make sure, unfortunately the reset button does not highlight for further adjusting and even the lowest setting still gives me the config error, my only hope is that my company bonus in February is good enough to warrant a new computer! Of course thats after I have my wife's car repaired as well. If a whole new system is not possible just yet, perhaps I will look into upgrading my motherboard.
Thanks again for the suggestions though.

Check if your slash.dll is (565,248 bytes)exactly (there may have been something that tried to alter the file. Its located in C:\Program Files\Larian Studios\Beyond Divinity\ Are you shutting down all non essensial programs before trying to run ? If you are not sure how to close programs out of your systemtray, you can install this little program EndItAll and once in the program, click on the button that looks like 2 skulls (or labeled "kill it all"). That will close everything that is running in the background. Then try again... but thats all i can think of to make the game run on your computer.

Looks like this : DIV caused an invalid page fault in module SLASH1.DLL at 017f:05467657
And I do generally shutdown unessential programs when I know I am playing a game that requires all available resources, but thanks for the little hint on the enditall program one can never have too many helpful progs. After shutting down all system tray progs I had 83% system resource available.
I think my downfall is definitely my video card(old geforce 32, game wants 64) and my P3, 600Mhz, where game wants P3, 800Mhz.
Sadness becomes more and more apparent as realization sets in that it will likely be a while before I will be able to enjoy this game as it meant to be played.
Thanks again,
Krak

Did you download and install DirectX, or install it from the game install? One person got this error but avoided the problem if they skipped the DirectX install at the end of the game install, then rebooted and went through the configuration. Try setting your desktop resolution to the same as the game resolution. Some people have had problems with DirectX's resolution switching, which this can work around, though I don't think those cases involved invalid page faults. If you run dxdiag (click Start | Run, type in dxdiag and hit Enter), does it report any problems? There are a couple tests in the Display tab you can try. Do you have any video filters installed? At least the ReClock DirectShow Filter needs to be disabled to play the game videos. In Windows Explorer, if you browse to the ' ..\Beyond Divinity\Static' folder, can you view the ' intro.mpg' video? (other videos contain spoilers)

Hi Raze, Lots of good and detailed questions you pose thank you Actually I had directx 9 already on from windows update, but I went ahead and dl'd and installed 9c, and game resolution was set to match desktop. I do like the directx diagnose command you mentioned that I did not know and will come in handy for future system checks. Unfortunately I wasn't able to view any of the vids. In preparation for installing I upgraded my video driver, nvidia geforce(old), I doing so I managed to knock out my direct draw thereby disabling all my other games! DOH! Luckily I was able to mend back to previous driver. So at least I can still play & D2, my old faithfuls. Thanks for the suggestions I think I am going to quietly wait for my next power gaming system and so I don't inadvertently push my current system into a deeper depression from which it may never recover, hopefully I won't have to be sad for too long
Thanks, Krak
