The votes are counted per question. So any open questions that are left blank, just don't count for that question only.

In a way he's right, but that's rather a philosophical discussion : sincewhich point is a game an RPG ?

Because I've read the comment of a dev that FPS games are basically role-playing, tooo ... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

When you find a big kettle of crazy, it's best not to stir it.

Type 1 RPG game:
Officially the role-playing genre of games is based on a few criteria such as can your character level up? (get stronger, more health) - Is it stat/skill based? - is it story driven, is there a lot of npc interaction within the game? (not cut scenes)

Type 2 RPG game:
For me an rpg can be all those, but an rpg game for me can also be one where I can get involved with my main characters personality, or use my own personality to make choices in the game that create consequences that effect the outcome of the story. So not every answer to the type 1 questions has to be yes for it to be an rpg.

Is 'stealth games' a new genre? It's easier to label things than have them floating around as miscellaneous. So I'd label Thief : DS as an rpg type 2

Very few fps even have a main character - just a shell with no personality and no ingame character interaction.

If you can get involved enough with the character in the game then it can be role-playing, and then I added an 'or' if you can effect the story through choices you make.

You can't effect the story in most RPG's, they are just scripted stories in which you're along for the ride. In a lot of them you're given choices to make, but often these are superficial and don't effect the story out come.

And yes thief 3 is also a first person sneaker, in the same way that Beyond Divinity is a 'cabinet' view action collect-em-up! Both with their own character elements and story.
