It sounds like you've already done this, but with the patch installed, the game will automatically correct the resistances when you load that save, so there is no need to start over. FYI, this is a bug with resistance calculations when equipping an item with a Magic Barrier bonus, and then unequipping it without otherwise learning the skill.
