Are the stat changes pernament? When I touch it it says I will become more clumsy and I lose 5 agility. How do I make what the orb gives me positive.

Yes, it is permanent and it is all random.

I know this is cheesing it, but I always save before I touch that orb
and I keep reloading until I get a positive stat gain.

Again, which stat you lose or gain 5 points in is all random.
