Just start a list of the differences between the book and the movie and see for yourself.
1. Ford became black. 2. Zaphod has ONE BLOODY HEAD. 3. Trillian NEVER LOVED ARTHUR. 4. The vorgon ships were yellow. 5. HHGG never was intended to have plenty of space battles ...
I feel like I just saw the corpse of poor Douglas Adams ripped before my own eyes and could do nothing about it.
Edit: Yes, thank you, Seth. I corrected the link. You probably see how upset I am: I couldn't even get a url command right!

Aye, When I first copied the link and pasted it I got this: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6) ... a page without the trailor. (I dunno why - maybe I was to much in a hurry too ) And I thought "eh? So unlike DATD" I get it now.

Geeze, I havn't read the book in a while... (Who's Marvin )
Better reread it. When I get the chance, that is (I have no idea where our copy is. I think I borrowed it to my best friend, but he don't recall it )

Hey, welcome back! ![[Linked Image]](http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~marlex/runes/Kat.gif) Watching the trailer, I think Zaphod does have two heads. One of them is inside and he robotically switches heads when he needs to. This one might even haev a personality!

I saw the original trailer, without showing the actors or real footage, and I was exciting. Not sure what to say now. I might have to get a new copy of the books and rent the BBC version again.

Maybe then you would change your mind about this movie. About your criticized points: 1. And? Is that a problem? 2. Actually - as it was already mentioned - he has two heads, one being hid. You should watch the trailer a bit more carefully. 3. Who said she does in the movie? I couldn't get such an info from the trailer. 4. The Vogon (and not Vorgon ) ships' color has really been changed - I do think that yellow space ships would look funnier indeed, but oh well, if that is all they change, I am fine. 5. Again: I couldn't get such an info from the trailer. How can you conclude from a few minutes of a trailer that the movie will have plenty of space battles? Not to mention the fact that the novels are quite full of action, too. Generally, I can't agree with such a rather shallow criticism. However, I am not really pleased with the movie either - mainly because of the actors. I wanted Jim Carrey!

The octopus has crawled away or so
I never have read the books, or watched all that stuff on BBC, so I basicly don't know anything about it. But since i'm a really movie addict I maybe know what it's all about

I wanted Jim Carrey! 1. Yes. 2. So what? In the book he had to keep one head in a parrot cage when he met Trillian so it's still different from the book. I also expected Zaphod to look like a burocrat, not like a beatnik artist. 3. "Arhuuuur! Trishaaaaa!" 5. I already see more lasers than I wanted to. I do mind Ford not being white. What if they made a movie about Martin Luther King and he was played by a white actor? I wouldn't want that. Some roles are to be played by white actors and some are better to be played by black actors. Mos Def is a bad choice for Ford Perfect because I can hear humour in his voice in the trailer. Ford was ligh-headed but when he spoke he was serious. Also, if you are hinting at me being an idiot, I'd suggest you to take it back.

I do mind Ford not being white. What if they made a movie about Martin Luther King and he was played by a white actor? On Douglas Adams web site 'When it comes down to it, my principle is this - Arthur should be British. The rest of the cast should be decided purely on merit and not on nationality.' -- DNA On the up side, John Malkovich is in it. He plays a new character created for the movie, a cult leader. I'm going to see the movie. I don't have magnificent expectations, so I'll either be blown away or come out half-hearted. Regardless of the original story, it still looks like fun.

Ford was ligh-headed but when he spoke he was serious. I want to mention a point which Ralf wrote in the German section - supposedly, there is no word in the books about whether Ford is black or white or red or whatever. So, if that is true (which I can't say 100%), it means that it is your own and personal problem if you expect Ford Prefect being a white guy. Most definitely, the comparison between M.L.Kind and Ford Prefect would be a rather bad one if that mentioned information is true - since King was a black guy and we don't know what color Ford has. Also, if you are hinting at me being an idiot, I'd suggest you to take it back. I didn't say that. And I don't have sufficient information yet to make that conclusion. The only problem I see is that you have way too many strict expectations and automatically don't like the movie with only seeing maybe 2% of it. I do think that there can't be many literature adaptations to the cinema without changing more or less elements of the novel. The question would be if they manage to make a good movie and still relate to the novel in a way which can please fans. And to decide if that is the case, it's a bit too early I guess. P.S: Another point I want to mention but had forgotten earlier (thanks again for Ralf for reminding me of it in the German section): Before his death, Douglas Adams worked on the screenplay and thus agreed with the changes they made in his life time.
