I appear to be stuck on the first level of the second Battlefield dungeon in Act 1. I've gone down, trekked through about half the dungeon, but there don't appear to be any doors that will allow me to go any further. I can see parts of other rooms, both in the main screen and on the automap, but I can't reach them. What can I do?

Sometimes an entrance can be partly or completely obscured by a wall. Check the auto map, to see if you can see some blue sticking out somewhere. Running around methodically searching with the mouse can also help.

Occasionally the entrance can be a pile of rocks, rather than the usual fountain thingy.

Rarely part of a level can be separated from the rest, which could contain the entrance to the next level. Since you can see sections of the map you can not get to, this may be the case here.

In the main game there is a way to get a summoning doll through a wall and then enter and leave the BF to get your characters there (armory trick in act 1), but since you are already in the BF, that will not help.

Alt-tabbing out of the game and back can shift character positions slightly, so if you get both characters as close as you can to a wall you may be able to alt-tab repeatedly to get them through. Doing this with other NPCs around can cause problems if they get through a wall and become inaccessible.

Teleporting anywhere (via hex editor)

Alternately, you can just skip the rest of that dungeon. You may miss one or more BF quest solutions by not getting to the third level, but completing the BF dungeons is not necessary.

It's definitely not a case of a passageway being obscured, I searched very carefully, for quite a long time, and there's simply no way to make it through. The dungeon is effectively cut in half. I took a quick stab at the hex editing option last night, but it didn't work out; the characters didn't move at all from their position. (However, it was very late and I was very tired, so there's a good chance I was just doing it incorrectly. I may try it again when I have more time.)

Thanks for the help. At this stage I've just moved on, but it's really annoying. I really, really HATE missing out on any part of my games, especially RPGs, so knowing there's a significant portion of this dungeon left completely untouched, as well as the possibility of quests attached to it, just drives me nuts.

And I can't believe there isn't some routine in place to make sure this didn't happen. Diablo was able to do it years ago.

Not to defend problems with the BF generation, but the original Diablo wasn't perfect either. The very first game I played had the first level entrance into a closed, small empty room. I wandered around a bit looking for a non-existent lever or something to get to the rest of the level, but was told 'sometimes it does that' and to exit and restart the game.

If you decide to try hex teleporting again and can't get it to work, let me know.
