I installed Divine Divnity and the latest 1.33 or whatever patch, and the game crashes CONSTANTLY in Direct3D mode. I can't even play for more than 5 minutes at a time. My whole computer locks up. The music is still playing, but i get no response from my mouse or keyboard or anything. I can't even use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to close the game. I have to restart my entire computer by manually turning it off. The crashes seem completely random too. I'd prefer to get it working under Direct3D mode if possible, because it looks better.

My video card has a tendency to crash on me once in a while with most of my 3D accelerated games, but never nearly as often as this. Here's my system specs:

Windows 98SE
Direct-X 9.0
AMD Athlon XP 2100 Processor
512mb PC3200 RAM
Radeon 9700 Pro video card

Note that a few months ago i was using a Geforce 4 Ti4600 video card on this exact same system (different mobo though) and had no problems.

I am having the same problem since installing the newest patch (but I have also upgraded video drivers etc lately). Crashing all the time in Direct3D. If I switch to using Direct Draw, it is quite stable however (although it does not look quite as good). Using AMD XP2000+, Windows XP Pro, DX 9.0a, Ati Cat 3.2 drivers on Radeon 8500. FWIW, other than Divinity, my other games seem to be pretty stable.

Ok. I turned off the "smoothing" feature and that seemed to reduce (perhaps even eliminate) the crashes. I've been able to run the game in Direct3D mode now for awhile, without any crashes. Maybe the newer Radeon cards don't work well with this feature.

There seem to be a number of problems with directX9 and Divinity - dx9a fixes some of those, but not all. We're busy with making an update of the gfx drivers of Divinity to run with dx9.

Where stands it written that I have to be fair?

I read somewhere about Raedon cards and , can't remember where tho....
but i do remember it saying,
there were some issues with that card, and the performance in the game (crashes)

great help eh? [Linked Image]

so there will be another updated patch with the Dx problem fixed,
is this what i am being led to believe?

Thats strange because I didnt have any problem when playing the game on a Radeon 9700 video card and I do have problems (crashes randomly) with GeForce4 ti 4800
