Hello.

I really want to play this wonderful little gem, but I've come across one problem. I get this random static sounds that is very loud in game. Is this a bug? I've installed this once before and had the same issue. I tried lowering hardware acceleration and my SigmaTel Audio drivers are up to date. Is there any other way I can fix this problem that I haven't tried?

My system:

Inspiron 9100
Pentinum 4 2.8 with HT technology
512 mb ddr2
ATI Mobile Radeon 9700 128mb (using OMega Drivers based off of ATI Catalyst set 5.4)
SigmaTel Audio SOundcard(latest drivers)
60 gig hard drive
Direct X 9.0 c
No Virus
No Spyware
Only minimal(needed)processes running in background.
Fresh Windows XP Install with SP 2 and all updates.

Full Installation of game with latest patch.

This is the first game from the last 5 years that I've experienced problems with on this system.

Any help is appreciated.

P.S. Will this problem be present in Beyond Divinity? I wanted to pick that game up if I can't solve this problem.

Did you try disabling hardware sound acceleration completely?

If you play with the sound volumes, can you narrow the static down to a particular category (ie just with music, or sound effects)?

Troubleshooting Tips (& manual install procedure)

A few people have had static problems in Divine Divinity, sometimes associated with underground locations, but I do not recall anyone with Beyond Divinity encountering this.

Yeah. I disabled acceleration which causes the sound effects to sound garbled. I basically tried all 4 settings: full, standard, partial, and disabled. It's definitely not the music. I can't tell if it's the first time a certain audio file is played or if it's random though. For example, the first time I opened a barrel I got the quick static sound. After that once instance for that particular sound it did not occur. However, the next time I restarted it was a different sound in a different location like hearing an orc scream for the first time.

Hm... that's strange. I'm not sure what else to suggest. At least it occurs infrequently.
Part way through the game, one person had the sound turn into a high pitched buzz when underground, causing them to turn the speakers off for dungeons, caves and cellars. Later in the game the sound suddenly returned to normal, for no apparent reason.

Yeah. You are right. It's just startling to hear every now and then. One minute I'm fully immersed in the game with it's ambience and beautiful music and then BZZZZ. It makes me jump out of my seat.

Oh well at least I can enjoy the game.

Thanks for the help.

Im having the same random high-pitch static sound ingame. I didnt
have them until I upgraded my computer:

Old hardware
Athlon 64 3000+
1Gb ddr
X800XL
SB Audigy 4
Directx 9.0c
32" LCD
Windows XP pro

New hardware
Intel E6600
2Gb ddr2
8800GTS
SB Audigy 4
Directx 9.0c
32" LCD
Windows XP home

I have tried old/new drivers for my sound card and
made sure the motherboard one is disabled. I have
also rebooted my speakers incase of built up static
charges (my old speakrs had this problem). I have also
tried old/new install of the game without any success.

Nothing has helped yet. The only faint guess I can make is that
the bug is related to windows home edition. Only people Ive seen here with bug all have home edition.

Did you try using the onboard sound?

Did you check for updated chipset drivers for your motherboard?

If you run dxdiag (click Start | Run, type in dxdiag and hit Enter), does it report any problems? There are a series of tests under the Sound tab.

I play many other games and videos and music with this setup and divine divinity is the only one having problems. Its useless but I checked dxdiag and everything is okay. My motherboard is laterev with matured drivers. I dont bother trying to use the mainboard sound because its way too much hassle and im sure it wont work anyway.

Luckily the static is currently quite rare so i have become custom to it. It doesnt really bother at all anymore. Just now I played 3 hours and it happened only twice in that time.

Well, if you can not eliminate a problem, at least rare is better than not rare.

A belated welcome to the forum.
