No there isn't, at least not with a weapon expertise skill. What kind of damage are you doing now? The best one handed swords consistently in the game can get up to 71-100 damage, and you may be able to buy or find slightly better. I don't recall what the damage was for any quarterstaves, but I didn't find many of them (compared to other weapon classes), and there are no unique staffs consistently in the game.
The game gets a little easier as it progresses, though, so it shouldn't be too hard to keep playing with staffs. You can boost your agility to raise your change to hit, which will also lower your chance to be hit (when you get to Verdistis you can get an item that gives you an agility boost). Strength will give you a melee damage bonus, as would the Poison Weapon skill. Stun is also quite handy to have; once you start making contact, your opponent's defense and attack rate drops while you can get more uninterrupted hits in.
