Are there any nice wizard robes in this game that I will run across? The only armor i ever run across is chain armor and im playing as a wizard so I would like to find some nice mage items. How far in the game until I am able to find some?

There are no robes in the game; you may have to stick to cloth(?) or leather.
You can find or buy mythril plate armour (strong armour with no strength requirements), which is good for wizards, except of course for not fitting into the classical magic user build.
If you are more put off by how your character looks in heavy armour than wanting to play by rules from other games ( ), there is a silver breastplate you can find in the Dark Forest. This can be upgraded (see below), after which it is invisible on your character.

Silver Armour and Treasure Maps (Spoilers) - you can find the treasure maps and the cave yourself, though will need these instructions to continue to the easter egg area

Robes were mentioned a few times in suggestion topics for future games. A couple people also wanted capes, like Seth or (IIRC) the head of the warrior guild wore.

There is robe armour in Beyond Divinity, though they are not full length wizard's robes. Incidentally, there is a unique robe armour in BD called Zandalor's Skin (hopefully that is figurative, rather than literal ).

I think robes been mention for the wishlist for DD2, yes. I think it was me and someone (or just someone, dun't wasn to take false credit for this. It was probablly Tragic, I suspect his hobby is to come up with new ideas for DD2 . Unless Larian hates work, maybe they should hire him ... Erm, back to what I was saying...) came up with the idea of robes with special attributes (like improved manacapacity or something) to weight up the loss of defence and resistance (acually think you should be EASIER to hit in a platemail. I mean, wearing a light robe or a full plate, what makes you easiest to hit? But then if you hit someone in a light robe it should hurt a lot more than if you were wearing a platemail). Staffs with casterbonuses would be apreshiated too.
