I'm playing as a female wizard now at lvl 26. Can anyone recommend what good offense spells I should distribute my points towards? The only mage skill so far that I find most useful is the summon death knight. What spells do you guys usually pick for wizards?

[*] Meteorstrike (can be cast very fast repeatedly, and has a stunning effect)
[*] Blind + Hell Spikes (level 4 or 5)
[*] Survivor's Curse + any elemental attack (some people also like to Life Leech a couple time after cursing, or use Polymorph) Curse is cumulative, so even at level 1 you can cast it quickly a few times in a row to really drop the target's resistances
[*] Deathly Discs (at level 4 or 5) and Burning Wall are good for groups (the first if you are surrounded, and the second if you can run around and fence them in)

The following topic discusses effective strategies for all classes, though may contain spoilers.

Mage spell books can be bought, so if you keep your eyes open when trading, you can pick up some and experiment without having to use skill points.

Deadly discs are good after you put 5 points into it?

I didn't use many offensive spells. I found a Burning Wall spell book in Mardaneus' house which came in very handy in a couple places early in the game (the spider at the bottom of the catacombs and the heavy orc just south of Aleroth), but that's about it. If you have the skill points, you can save the game, learn Deadly Discs and try it out.

Kiya described defeating the vampire in the cave using Deadly Discs; she cast the spell repeatedly, which knocked him back behind his coffin and killed him there, before he could even get close.

Im having alot of trouble killing this stupid El Shrimpo in the cemetary. None of my spells will do enough damage to him. I casted LvL 3 curse on him and tried hitting him with all my offense spells, lightning, meteorstrike, elemental bolt, nothing hurts him.

I'm not sure what El Shrimpo's resistances are, but in general, mages should max Know Creature (survivor skill, path of lore) to get that information and be able to choose the best spell for the opponent they are facing.

Hell Spikes do physical damage, so can not be resisted.

Save the game and learn one level of Burning Wall (if the lightning damage is not effective you can reload). By casting the spell and running around him in a tight circle, you can hold him in place for a few seconds, while he takes multiple hits off whatever sides he is touching. Even if you just run away from him (perhaps in a zig zag pattern), he should get caught up in the wall chasing after you.

Once held by Burning Wall, you could switch to Meteorstrike and left click as fast as you can, as long as your mana holds out.

Enough restoration potions can get you through any fight. You could try switching to a melee weapon, or use hit and run tactics with a bow.

I couldn't sleep, so decided to check out Shrimpo. Fire and lightning resistance are 50, poison and spiritual are 100, with 1416 hit points (and he can cast restoration to heal). He is level 30, does melee damage of 16-56 with a 95% chance to hit, and has an armour class of 127.

He is fast and agile, so hit and run tactics do not work as well as they do against some other creatures. Burning Wall does work (slowly), but getting on the other side of a group of trees and casting Meteorstrike as quickly as possible does do a bit more damage. Burning Wall would have worked better for me if I had more practice getting closed loops; Shrimpo is good at finding a way out if there is one, and doesn't usually try getting through the wall if there is another path that isn't too much longer.

Level 5 of Hell Spikes finishes him off fairly quickly (level 3 or 4 should work almost as well). He is smart, though, and will avoid the spikes as much as possible. The best approach is to stand on the other side of a group of trees / gravestones and cast it right in front of him as he approaches (he has to slow down to get through and is not as maneuverable).
I didn't try Blind on him, but that should help quit a bit. While blind, he could not attack you, so should be an easy target, and he might not be able to find the safest way off the spikes.

If you use a shadow potion, or cast Fade From Sight, I think you can cast area effect spells that do not need a target (such as Hell Spikes) near an opponent and not become visible (they can not counterattack). Warriors can use this with their spin attack to easily defeat any opponent (though that would be boring).

I'll try putting at least 4 points into hell spikes then give Shrimpo a go again. Ill also try using burning wall.
