Actually, that may be a good sign (knock on wood). If a new game also has this problem, then it may be something in the game files, rather than the saved game folders, in which case backing up your saves and doing a clean re-install might (hopefully) fix it. Just re-installing the
patch might help as well (some re-released versions are already patched to game version 1.0034A, as displayed in the bottom right corner of the main menu). It is possible that even if the problem started with the game files that the item file in the save folders could still be corrupt, though.
Try installing the patch and starting a new game. If a new game works, try your existing saves; if they still do not work, the problem may be in the saves themselves. If neither work, it may be the game, in which case re-installing might help. See;
Troubleshooting Tips (& manual install procedure)Alternately, search the game folders for the file name 'items.000'. The version in the startup folder should be about 208KB, the one in the startup.v2 folder (with the patch installed) is about 235KB, and those in the saved game folders should be 210KB or more (can be up to a couple MB by the end of the game). Any small or zero byte files would likely indicate where the problem is.
