well, the title of this post pretty much says it all. As I go around, I keep finding and picking up roots. They aren't too heavy, but like other things, they add up after awhile. Do they serve a purpose? Are they for alchemy? Or are they just there for folks like me to pick up and get weighed down?

They are food; you can sell them, or click on them to sleep and eat them.
For me, after the beginning of the game food in general became just extra weight. I didn't use much mana, so the healing spell (in general) or potions (during fights) were enough that I never bothered to sleep. I started sticking most of the food I gathered in a barrel kept in the BF, in case I started running low on potions, or otherwise needed to resume sleeping in the game.

There are also a couple quest related roots, which have unique names.

Okay, I found myself wondering if I was the only one who didn't see the usefulness of the beds and meals. When I get home tonight, I'll drop all but one or two for emergencies. Roots are gone, too.
