If DD2 uses the game engine for the introduction rather than pre-rendered video, it would be flexible enough to show whatever character customizations are available. Pre-rendered video has until recently had a significant advantage with image quality, and can be tweaked a lot more than a scripted game sequence. If they do use a video and show a playable character, they may choose a generic appearance and hide them under a cloak or in shadow, to leave the gender and class open to interpretation (similar to what was done in the cutscene videos in Beyond Divinity).
I have not heard of that problem with imps before, though there is a similar issue. If you mix any 2 of Frost on a weapon, Stun on a weapon and the passive Stun skill, it can cause an opponent to freeze in mid death animation. An area effect spell that does not need a target, such as Hell Spikes, would force the animation to finish. Some people found that either waiting or sleeping would also help.
Do the imps stay on your mini-map as red crosses until they finally die? Perhaps Hell Spikes could speed things up?
There is a file verification procedure described in the topic below, which could help you determine if the problem is with the game itself (perhaps a corrupt animation) or conflict with something else in your system.
Troubleshooting Tips (& manual install procedure)Had you talked for Corinna before entering the thieves' guild, you would have gotten the quest to rescue Penumbra. By killing her you only miss out on a quest to help Corrina summon a demon, after which she would have taught you a level of banish. Also, you need to have freed Penumbra to get 'special treatment' in the cellar under Leptine's shop in Verdistis.
