I'm sure I just already posted this, but no matter! I did a search but couldn't find any other posts about this (search is playing up a tad too), so apologies if this is repetitive.

I just got the key in Act 2 for the level 4 Battlefields, so I picked up the quests, entered the first dungeon, happily hacked away until I reached the boss level - no boss.

Thought it may be a one-off, so I entered the next dungeon, cleared it out and reached the boss level - no boss again.

Is this a bug, or are there no bosses until I pick up the next key?

Thanks x

Well, it once happened to me that there was no boss in one level - or even two - but instead all I missed were in one level !

So search on !

By default the search function only goes back the last week, and looks for the exact phrase entered rather than all terms separately, so if you did not change those it could explain the lack of results.

BF quest items and monsters are placed randomly on the third levels of the dungeons, so it is possible for any particular dungeon to have none, one or multiple items or boss monsters.

yep, you'll get empty dungeons, very frustrating working your way down to find nothing.

you'd think they'd bung any old monster in there, you know, just for some sense of achievement.

I'm having a similar problem.

In the first act, no boss in the first dungeon.
Went on to the second dungeon, again no boss.
You'd expect at least one boss to be in the third then, right? Well, none.
I did of course proceed as far down as I could in them. I had to leave act one without having been able to complete any of the BF quests.

Can the BF's be so random that sometimes there just are no bosses? Or is this a glitch?

Any thoughts?

That would definitely be a glitch. The quest items or boss monsters may be placed randomly, but they should be in one of the third levels of the BF dungeons.

You said you went down as far as you could. Did you reach the third level in each dungeon? Sometimes an entrance to the next level can be obscured behind a wall, or otherwise hard to find.

Do you have the patch installed?

I several times encountered no bosses in BF dungeons - not in the first BF dungeon, but in the second, third or even last one. No levels, though, I mean the full dungeons.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm not really new, I've been reading for months, ever since I got stuck in Divine Divinity for the first time. I'd always been able to find the information I needed to get on, except for this time, so I figured I'd post.

At the end of each dungeon, I ended up in a large room, but way smaller than the other levels in the dungeon, with no other door or entrance than the colourful one I entered through. I checked the walls for doors, shoved packages aside, but no door, hatch, stairs or anything that might lead to another level.

I'm downloading the patch as I type, I hope it'll work. I still have some saved games from when I was in act 1, so I should be able to find out if the patch solves the problem.

This particular room you described is where the bosses stay - in one of the battlefields dungeons/levels.

You know, you get throughout the game several battlefield keys for different BF levels/dungeons.

It occured to me, that sometimes bossess are not in one level, but in the next.

I think I even once had almost all bossess in the last room (similar to what you described) in the third BF dungeon/level (I mean the third BF key there).

That's what I did as well, then never left. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

That sounds about right for the third level of a dungeon.

The BF is generated the first time you enter in each act, so the patch would not help the act 1 BF unless you reload a fairly early save. You may want to reload a save at the end of act 1 to enter act 2 with the patch installed, though, depending on how far you have gotten.

I saved my latest quicksave under another name and started over again. This way I can find out if the patch worked, and if not I can just continue where I left off in act 2.

I have installed the patch, but have not yet reached the third level of a dungeon. I wish I had the time to play all day.....
I have noticed though that it takes less time to load the battlefield. It used to take at least 5, sometimes even 10 minutes to load it, sometimes the game even crashed halfway loading, due to not enough visual memory of Windows.

Well, it worked.
I've found an item in the first two dungeons needed to complete a quest.
The merchants also have more money (a couple of thousands instead of hundreds) and have new money every time I enter the BF, which is another problem solved.
