Ok, for tho's experts who know how to fix this that has not been reading my other posts read on. But the others who all ready know about it, just skip to the picture at the bottom

Ok, on DISK 2 when i'm installing i get an error box come up called Decompression error, and it says CRC error.

This disables me from playing the male MAGE charicter, and when ever i start the game up, or go from an act to a different act, i just get this error show up all the time...

And here is what i get when im installing....
I showed the point of where i get the error so you can see that its a "Hero" file and this is why i guessed that the Male mage hero will not work.

Try a different optical drive, if possible. Some optical drives can have problems with some CDs, and if there is a defect or non-visible physical damage with the CD, some optical drives are better than others at trying to correct for that.

Did your father try manually extracting the '..\disc2\wizm.rar' file into the to '..\Divine Divinity\Run' folder, as described in the manual install procedure? If that still gives a CRC error, try copying the rar file to the hard drive, and see if Winrar will extract it from there, or if it can fix the archive and then extract the files.

The error with the loading screen is not directly related to the male wizard problem, since the relevant tga image files are on the play CD.
To fix this, select the 'disc3\static' folder on the play CD, and copy the 5 *.tga files into the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\static' folder on the hard drive. The 5 *.bik files are not required (they would just take up an extra 76MB of hard drive space if copied) and it sounds like the objects.000 file was installed correctly. After copying the files, select the '..\run\static' folder on the hard drive, and clear the read-only attribute.

If you can't install it properly from a different drive, have your father try a manual installation and then re-install the patch (some re-release versions of the game may already be updated to the latest 1.0034A version, as shown in the bottom right corner of the main menu, so would not need to be patched).

Ok First, I did what you told me about manualy extracting the files from the CD, Here is my results...

Seccondly, you said

i went onto DISK 3 but i dont know what ones to extract because none of them have *.tga at then end of them, so i did a screen shot and you can tell me the ones to extract to my /run/static folder

Thirdly, about the cd drives... In the last few years iv been having loads of new ones lol, and it's not worked on any of them, plus i have DVD ones now... But i'm shure that dose not make a difference because it works normal cd's as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit

Ok i looked in run/static and dick3/static and i found that thies files thats on DISK 3 are not in my divinity run/static (and it gives me an error saying i cant copy them)

"BAK"
"CDV.bik"
"larian.bik"
"kz.bik"
"scene1.bik"

Can you extract all the other files in the archive? If wizmB.bic is the only problem file, then I'm not sure, but you may still be able to play a male wizard by going into the options within the game and changing the visual quality setting (to have the game use a different set of animations for the hero).
The only difference between the male and female mages (besides voice and appearance, of course) are the starting skills.

Try copying the wizm.rar file to a folder on your hard drive, and see if you can extract the files from there. If not, try fixing the archive (after opening it in Winrar there should be an option under the commands or tools menus, or from Windows Explorer there may be an option in the right click context menu to test and/or fix the archive).

All the files shown without an extension are tga files. If you switch to details view rather than icons, there should be a file type column which lists them as something like 'tga files'.
By default, Windows XP (stupidly) hides known extensions (so, for example, virus.txt.exe would be displayed as virus.txt making it more likely people would try to open it). To change this, in Windows Explorer, click on the 'Tools | Folder Options' menu, then switch to the View tab. In the Advanced Settings list, uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types'. You may also want to check off 'show hidden files and folders'.

Did you try copying the 'back' tga file from the CD in different optical drives (the *.bik files do not matter)? If so, it sounds like there is a defect or damage to the CD.

In any case, that file is small, so I can put up a temporary link so you can get it: back.tga zip (887KB). After downloading it and extracting it into the static folder, you shouldn't have any more errors at loading screens.

yep, i tryed extracting the "Back" file into the static but it did not work, i just got an error. Iv downloaded the back file from that link and put it in *./run/static and i still get the error when i start the game, and when i load a game the whole game crashes.

Iv tryed to copy the rar file "Wizm" but i get the "CRC" error... This is ennoying... i can just re-orded the game from www.amazon.co.uk but it will take 1-2 weeks fot it to get here

But i guess we could keep trying to fix this problem if you have any more solutuions

(in the morning ill have enother look at your post because i'm so tiered and cant consontrade :P)

[color:"orange"]Iv downloaded the back file from that link and put it in *./run/static

Did you unzip the archive? Windows XP shows zip files as folders (to a limited extent), so you can either extract the back.tga file from there or from Winrar.

In case you did extract the back.tga file, I've updated the zip file (same link as above) to include all of the tga files. One or more of the files that the install copied to your hard drive may be corrupt. If you wish, you can try opening them in an image viewer (such as the freeware program IrfanView).

Alternately, you can try changing the game resolution, and see if that eliminates the error with the load screen. With the tga image files, 'backs' is 640x480, 'back' is 800x600 and 'backe' is 1024x768.

[color:"orange"]Iv tryed to copy the rar file "Wizm" but i get the "CRC" error...

Did you try copying the wizm file to the hard drive from Windows Explorer? You may get an error that Windows can not read the file or CD, but it should not be a CRC error.

[color:"orange"]i can just re-orded the game

From Windows Explorer, if you can not copy the tga image files or the wizm.rar file off of their respective CDs (trying with more than one optical drive), then the problem is most likely with the CDs themselves. In that case, the place where you bought the game should either replace it or give you a refund.

I am more than 15.

Oh yea your the man!

Now when i start the game i "DONT" get the load screen error and 1 other thing that its fixed that i diddent tell you is that at the beggining of the main menu loading screen, the "whole" picture shows now, i usualy only get half of the picture

I relised that the only reason why it cut out yesterday is because i was loading my charicters from the other patch.

Refund - Dont you think iv tryed that, they just say... Please give proof that you braught this game from out store.

I was wondering, how big is the wizm files? because you could do the same and put them onto a download?

Thanks raze you have helped me so much! and for free... and you have saved me money

-Peace out raze

If you paid cash and don't have the receipt that would pose a problem trying to get a refund.

The wizm.rar file is 148MB, while the wizmB.bic file that the error occurred with would be close to 80MB compressed.
Can you convince one of your friends that they should buy the game as well, and then borrow their second install CD?

A. Why would dollars make a difference if you pay with a credit card?
B. The last time I ordered a book it only took 10 days to reach me. That's from the USA all the way to Belgium.

Not that all this is important, but at the American Amazon you can still get new copies, rather than used ones.
