So what's the deal with this?

Aren't I supposed to take the sword?

If you keep the sword, the ghost will eventually kill the inhabitants of the Dark Forest (except Bronthion).

I'd leave the sword in there and return when you have solved all Dark Forest quests. Your elven love will still die - but you have no XP losses.

Political correct: Draw the sword - defeat ghost once, drag&drop sword back into the stone when it glows.

I tried that, but it doesn't seem to work...

Hmm, I'll try again.

You have the sword in your inventory - not equipped, right? If the stone glows again, then drag&drop it on top of the stone. And you must stand near enough, so the stone is highlighted in grey.

It worked!

I think I didn't do it when the stone was glowing before.

In general (i know stats are random) is this a good sword?
Also, you loose XP if everyone dies?

Well, it is a 2-hander - and I recall a gamer preferring to get bond, gagged and torn away instead of putting the sword back <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />. Yes, it can be very good.

Well, it's a really good two-handed sword, but i lost one quest because i got the sword and don't put back, i don't know what happens if you try that but i never tested because i not play divinity anymore, when i have the holy sword and the sword of the stone, i try to highlight the stone with the holy sword and work, but i think, if i do that and i lost holy sword(i didn't knew all the game yet) and i think, i won't put that here and i put the sword of stone back in the stone, if someone try that, please tell me what happen or if don't work.

Disadvantages of keeping it before you solve the Dark Forest quests:

If the urn collectors die - no quest
the elves in the village die - no elven love affair
if Gavanariel the archer dies - no reward Bow of the Hilfin, no bows you can buy
the elves around the Talking Tree die
lose +2 reputation you would've gained by putting the sword back

Experiments with the Holy Sword and the stone: Version 1.33

Before sacrifice: Stone is highlighted in grey, Holy sword seems to disappear, but is behind boulder (mouse shows it) - the ghost appears, you have to fight again

After sacrifice: Stone does not highlight in grey, the Holy Sword is too small - ghost appears, happy fighting

The people still die (urn collectors, elves in village, incl. your elven love) - but you have got the XP out of the quests already - you don't lose rep. actively - you just don't gain +2 rep, or the XP from putting it back..
