I bookmarked the Ultima V Lazarus site while it was in relatively early development. Now that it is finished, I have a reason to open Dungeon Siege, which I got for Christmas several years ago (this remake uses the Dungeon Siege 1 engine, so you need it or Legends of Aranna installed). Now all I need is the time to try it...

Well Raze, I've been playing for awhile and it is good but does have a few bugs. They are working on another patch and should be out soon.

Waiting for the patch myself. Even if they don't get all the bugs, this game is worth playing.

I have completed it. One of the best RPGs since a very very long time. Never seen such an amount of dialoges since Ultima VII

Hmm, if I can find it I might try it out...

So, what you need it basiclly DS1? And it's related to Ultima V somehow? Do you have to have played Ultima V to be able to play this one? Or is it like jumping into the middle of a serie?

I DLed the demo--80 MB, only to learn that it is unplayable without Dungeon Siege installed.

I've installed it now. One question: How do you know what class you are? No matter what you choose in the quipsytest, you have the same startingskills, and the same classname... I've liked the game so far (the starting intro is great ).

Edit: OK, I think I've figured out how it works. The pictures are taken out in some kind of play off (first you have quarterfinals, the picture you pick goes to semi-final, the picture you pick there goes to final, and the picture you pick in the final wins, and so it decides your class). Now I need to know which picture represends which class...

Are the old Ultima games any good?

I have 6 (the false prophet) and 7 (the black gate), but always been but off by the look of them.

Busy at the moment though with Final Fantasy 6 (or 3 in the US) - and Chrono Trigger

I give this one a go...is it hack hack like dungeon seige was as well as talky mac waffle?

Ultima is all about story, dialoges and living in another world.

No one has answered my questions ! I really want to know what class I get, otherwise I'll have problems playing it. Liked the starting sequence though, a pity games like that isn't made anymore .

I have a problem. I've just come to Brittannia castle and well... I've seen more guards that other NPCs here (and I've seen like four guards). Most houses are completelly empty. Anyone who knows what might be wrong?

Oh, and is there a working journal, or do you have to keep everything in your head?

First off all NPCs have 24 hours schedules. Depending on the day time (check the pocket watch in your inventory) they have different things to do. Working, sleeping, eating in tavern and so on. And no, there's no journal. You have to write your notes on paper (old school ).

Furthermore I highly recommend the U5Lazarus forums. All of your questions have been asked there to dead...

Yup. As many as possible about as much as possible. My brother discovered the 24h scedule (they must have been way before their time if that was part of the original game...).

And haveing to write everything down by yourself seems... strenuous... If they could at least keep a record off all your conversations (or if that is too comfortable for the player at least put in some kind of empty journal you could write in).

So I guess you've never played any games where you needed some graph paper in order to map out the dungeons?

Games whwere one has to scribble his/her own maps are ... well, I dare to say ancient. It was common during the times of the Ultima games, early Adventures, and especially text adventures.

Nowadays, almost every game has an built in map (automap), but to be honest, that's luxury. Like the radio in every car.

We don't consider it luxury, because we are al sooo used to that. But in fact, you'll notice it only when it's stolen (both the radio and the automap (Lands of Lore I).

A minimap is probablly far from the only thing we doesn't notice we'd miss terriblly if it was taken away. Like... I can't think of anything (I'm sure I'd miss it though...).

The initial version of Lazarus had no automap
