Can I play Russian on Windows XP x64? I'm read all info about StarForce protection on x64. StarForce release drivers update for x64, but game developers need to release update or something like that to support x64.
I'm want to play, but do not want to come back to x32... Or I need switch back to x32...
Did Larian Studios release support for x64? Thanks!

Another problem with my original cd, it's geting scratch up, is there a problem solving thing to play maybe without cd, or something? I want to do copy of my cd. I have russian .

Hi GreenMan and welcome !

Sorry but Larian doesn't support 64bit Windows There is no way to update the copy protection.

There is also no way to play without the cd's Try to replace the scratched cd's wherever you buy them.

doesn't have the StarForce copyprotection ! It is protected by one other protection scheme - sorry doesn't know the name

You could read also the StarForce FAQ. On the last page you find some informations for 64bit systems.

Starforce never really released their 64 bit patch.... they dont want to, because that would mean that other developers will be able to track the changes and crack starforce (not like its not already done).

The problem with Larian releasing a new patch.... is it will take another 2 years to fix all the bugs afterwards. When they applied the coppy protection the first time, it created a series of bugs that took a while to fix... they dont want to repeat that cycle.

but if you are patient enough, i am SURE that soon enough someone will come up with a emulator to simulate 32 bit just for the starforce... (it wont be official though, but since there are other games with the same problem.... someone somewhere will find a fix)

[color:"orange"]Thanks for putting starforce on BD!!!

Copy protection is largely the choice of the producer, not the developer. With the initial problems Larian had with Starforce, I'm sure they would have preferred something else.

[color:"orange"]wont work on my system waste of money spent

How exactly is Larian suppose to support an operating system released some time after the game was finished?

Microsoft changed how drivers are installed (among other things) with the 64 bit version of Windows, which breaks backward compatibility with the 32 bit version of Starforce, as well as a multitude of printer and scanner drivers, etc. This driver problem is well known, though games do not generally specify what type of copy protection is used (if any) on the box, so you would have to check compatibility (as with any new OS for software designed and tested on the previous version).

While I am not unsympathetic to your desire for things to just work, there is a reason why the leading edge of technology is also called the bleeding edge. If you want the latest stuff (especially with such a significant update), then expect there to be compatibility problems.
If you want to play older games, setup a dual boot system with a previous version of Windows (or get a second system).

IT matters if they didnt use starforce it wouldve worked perfectly fine
as does divine divinity!

how the hell is starforce bleeding edge does it improve my gaming experience?

why should i have to dual boot for a stupid protection scheme that does
more damage to the customer than the pirate!

Many people didnt want starforce in the first place but larian decided HEY
lets put it in away

Since you didnt understand it the first time around.... let me put it in International english...

Larian didnt Choose starforce....

[color:"yellow"] Digital Jesters and HIP games did along with whoever published the other localizations.

i am sure Larian feels just like you about starforce.

starforce is not the bleeding edge... your computer is, its just too new for it. I also have a 64 bit system... I own a copy of WIndows 64bit, i also own a copy of window xp... i CHOSE to run windows XP for another few months, because MOST games have some issue with 64 bit (other than the latest games that were designed for 64 bit).

If Larian knew 2 years in advance that Microsoft would be making changes to how drivers were installed that would break backward compatibility, they could have objected to the publishers' choice of copy protection.

If the publishers knew 2 years in advance that Microsoft would be making changes to how drivers were installed that would break backward compatibility, they may have chosen a different copy protection, or written some kind of compatibility guarantee into their contracts with Starforce.

If Starforce would release 64 bit drivers that recognize and work with 32 bit protected games, then the problem of premature obsolescence would never have happened. As it is, Starforce requires the developer to update the game to support the 64 bit drivers. If that was as simple as recompiling the game executable with the 64 bit version of Starforce, Larian would have done so. Unfortunately, they looked into it and determined that it was not possible (they had problems even patching the game with the 32 bit drivers in place).

[color:"orange"]why should i have to dual boot for a stupid protection scheme

Until relatively recently, the majority of people running the 64 bit version of Windows dual booted. Perhaps enough software and drivers have been updated now that this has changed, but the fact remains that there will always be older hardware and software that will not work with newer operating systems.

I wasn't telling you what you had to do, but what you needed to do if you wanted to play the game: dual boot or buy/borrow another computer with a 32 bit version of Windows.

There is a petition Asking Starforce for an Official Windows XP x64 Workaround to let games protected by the 32 bit version of Starforce work with 64 bit drivers.
