Check the number of files in the saved game folder (in ' ..\Divine Divinity\Run\savegames'). Missing files might cause the game to crash when trying to load. A new game should have 22 files, after going to either Verdistis or the Dark Forest it should have 27, and after going to both it should have 32. If you are missing any, post a list of the files in the save folder. It is possible that upon restarting the computer, Windows detected the forced shutdown and decided some recently changed files (ie the save folder) were corrupt and 'fixed' them. In one case after a crash a few minutes after exiting DD, Windows deleted all the inv.b0 (IIRC) files in somebody's saves, though this is a zero byte file which could easily be replaced, allowing the saves to load properly. Troubleshooting Tips (& manual install procedure)

i saw 32 files, but there was one called 'shot' with another picture on it, do i have to count that too? EDIT: when i was comparing my broken save file with my old one, i saw that in my old save 'story 000 and OO1' (and maybe some others) had more Kb, how can this, when im further in the story in my broken save file?

I was counting the shot.xxx file in the totals. It is a tga format screenshot made when saving, displayed during loading and in the save/load windows.
The story files may not have been completely saved. It is possible the size can go down a bit (it can take less room to list a quest as completed than keep a detailed track of progress), but checking my old saves I only noticed a couple times where the size dropped in successive saves, and it was on the order of a couple KB at most. Generally, the story.000 file increased relatively gradually from 3933 to 4285KB.
There is something you can try to check if this is the problem, but make a copy of your latest save as well as your last working save before trying it; if it doesn't help you do not want to make things worst. Copy the two story.* files from the copy of your working save into the copy of your latest save, overwriting the files there. If you can then load the copy of your latest save, you know the original story files were incomplete or corrupt. Depending on how far apart the 2 saves are, continuing with the old story files may cause minor to serious problems. You may reset some quest information and not be able to complete or even recieve some quests, due to parts of DD thinking you are at different points in the game.
How old is your most recent working save? The safest thing to do would probably be to revert to that save (and maybe save under unique names more frequently).

If the story files were incomplete or corrupt and replacing them didn't help, then there were likely other files in the save also corrupt. If you kept copying files from the working save copy into the latest save copy you could narrow down which files were the problem, but that probably would not help. Oh well, you should have an easier time starting over, anyway.
A belated welcome to the forum.
