I own a PC version of NHL 99 (and I have for 7 years) and I would like to be able extract the opening video from the CD to use as part of a lesson plan I need to do for one of my classes. I have looked through the CD contents and haven't found anything obvious, so I figured I would ask the computer literate.

How would I go about extracting the opening video from the cd so I could just play it on another computer without having to install the game and load it up?

hmmm ... tough question, as I have no idea what the game is .... that said does it use specific video files what format?? only other thing I can (unlikely) think of is some sort of dvd recorder program that lets you record what's on the screen ?

most games especially older ones use Bink videos & if it is confirmed that the game uses that then u can visit the official site Rad Game Tools. i don't know what's the difference between the official bink video player & that of Free Codecs website, but u can always read up on the details.

hope that helps, Mick, & do let us know how u fare with these if the files are indeed of bink format.

another obstacle can be due to the game system which keeps the video files in one large archive file, which i have no idea how to read & open & extract. seems propriety or maybe it's some obscure format.

Well I tried all kinds of converters and extractors but nothing worked. The file was supposedly .asf but none of the .asf converters I tired did any good.

I just ended up using the audio from it, by recording it from my speaker onto my MP3 player.
