First of all, hello to everyone Lets start with asking: Does Wizardry 8 / Arcanum work on the current XP? If it does could you people be kind enough to help me choose between these 2 games, i heard there names a couple of times on the forum, so i bet both games are good.

Both works, at least on my machine.
Personally I liked Arcanum best, because it was more focused on YOU. This is because there were six you in Wiz 8... And there were more fighting in Wiz 8. Arcanum is in fact one of the best balaced games I've ever played when it comes to balancing fighting with other things. In Arcanum everything didn't cirkle around fighting .
A word of warning though, both have pretty horrible graphics. Especially Arcanum... But if you decide to pick Arcanum up, you have some really nice moments to look forward to . I never got into Wizardry though, too much fighting in the beginning for my likeing...

I think ill take Arcanum, heard W8 has to mutch and boring battles. Only problem now is how to aquire such a old game, preffered at a low price.

And what about second-hand shops and flea markets ? I often find some bits (and bytes) there.

Both games can still be found on eBay (new and used, though current listings for new copies of Arcanum are not particularly cheap). I checked a couple online stores I have bookmarked, and Interact has Arcanum (also not cheap). DVD boxoffice has both games for probably more than they were when first released.

I still have Arcanum sitting in it's box, for over 2 or so years now. I never played it past the first area.
Wizardy 8 on the other hand was great.
Feeling all nostalgic now...must resist urge...to....in....stall......

I hated Wiz 8, and wound up trading mycopy to another forum member. There's a thread all about it here. Do a search.

If you do get a copy of Arcanum on Ebay, try to get one with a paper manual - it has 196 pages and contains information that you will want to refer back to during gaming (a pain to do with a PDF).

The paper Handbook of Arcanum is indeed one of the biggest game manuals I have.
