Larian Studios Forums Divine Divinity (English) General Black screen after council meeting?

After hitting the gong and going through all the cut scenes about the council and Janus, etc., when it goes to my character, the game screen is completely black and I can't proceed. The controls still show at the bottom of the screen. The automap is completely black with a + sign to show the character but he can't be moved. Has anyone had this happen?

Play the game using the disc.

No-CD hacks can not handle the cutscene video played at that point (same with the final cutscene at the end of the game).

With the patch installed (some re-release versions of the game may already be updated to the latest 1.0034A version, as shown in the bottom right corner of the main menu, so would not need to be patched), there is a configuration file edit which will eliminate the need for the play CD, except of course for blessing ceremony and end video (same as the no-CD hack).

that happend 2 me all i did was w8 and it showed the next cut scean

Putting the disk in didn't fix it. So, I reinstalled the game and just decided to play with the disk in and my savegames became corrupted. :-( Oh well. That just gives me a reason to replay it again later.

If you reloaded your previous save and hit the gong again after inserting the play CD, it should have worked.

Did you install the patch again after you re-installed the game? Saves made under the patched version will not load in the unpatched game. If that was the problem, installing the patch should fix it.

I tried several times reloading the saved game with the disk in. It never worked.

I'm thinking I may have forgotten the patch after I reinstalled. And I got aggravated when I thought I messed up the game and I uninstalled it. :-( I wish I had waited. But, like I said, I don't mind replaying the whole thing again. It's one of my favorite games.

Oh well, at least you just missed a relatively boring (hack and slash) part of the game.
