Is it possible to change the act you are on with a hex editer? I've just had to have my computer reformated and don't want to spend hours playing through to act 3 again!

You can skip act 1 by hex teleporting to the room with the stairs to act 2. Skipping act 2 would be more difficult, since you need to complete certain quests to trigger a cutscene. It may be possible to do by replacing Tax's character data and substituting story files from a save at the end of act 2. I'll check that... EDIT: At least part of the quest information is stored elsewhere in the data.000 file. Even with Tax's data and the story files replaced, he still reacts like the first time you talk to him in the prison.
If not, I could give you my save at the end of act 2, and you could replace the character data for the main characters if you wanted different skills and/or a different appearance for the hero.

The hex teleport topic describes how to teleport to the act 1 exit stairs. It also shows you how to find the character data section for the hero and DK. I don't recall if I tried this in BD or not (I have with DD), but you should be able to replace everything from the 'new npc' term above the location coordinates down to the next 'new npc' term with the corresponding section from a different data.000 file. The topic below would allow you to further edit the character data, and add any skills missed by skipping one or more acts. You may also be able to replace the entire SkillsV section with that from a different save. Hex editing - gold, experience, stat/skill pointsI PMed you a link to my act 2 save with my first reply.

Still not sure about how to do that, so would it be ok if I sent you my current save game so you can do it?? Also, could you unlock all skillpaths to level 10 please?? I tried but messed up the save I use for testing.
I've just brought the tooth from the Boney Monster to Horex, who's given me the doll and healed his borther.

If you email me the save I can get you to the end of act 2. Unlocking all skills would be a tad bit tedious, though. Transferring your character data to my data.000 file will give you all the skills I had at that point (I didn't get everything offered, but did learn anything that I thought might come in handy).

I messed up a few saves myself figuring things out and/or testing a procedure. If you backup files first, go through the procedure step by step and limit your editing (ie try just teleporting your hero, or just enabling one skill) you should get more comfortable with the editing procedure, and become much better at it.

Ok, I'm sending the save file just now.
Ignore that, my computer says the file has a virus the can't be cleaned, but when I scan for viruses, the Anti-Virus software doesn't pick up and viruses, and I've just updated it!!!
So it might take a while, because I'm going to start again, but I'll email it to you as soon as possible, Raze

Your email program may just give that warning with anything it doesn't recognize, or it could have an option to prevent certain file types from being attached. Did you zip the save folder before trying to email it? If so, zip it again (some anti-virus programs can scan within zip files, but most don't handle nested zips). In Windows XP you can zip a file or folder by right clicking on it in Windows Explorer and selecting 'Send To | Compressed Folder'. Other version of Windows, or to get more features in XP, require a separate program (freeware archive managers). You just have to start a new game with your character choices, save and email me the zipped data.000 file (or the data.000 file from your current save). Alternately, you can just post your character choices (gender and appearance).

It worked fine before and i've tried it with the file you sent me, but it also "has a virus". I'll see if I can just mail the data.000 fill to you, without zipping it. Ok, that's weird. It let me attach the data.000 file WITHOUT using WinZip... Anyway, that's the message sent. I'm going to look at my settings for WinZip and see if there's anything I can do there.

I have the file, and will get to it later today. As for Hotmail, you could have tried changing the extension of the zip file (ie change data.zip to data.xyz), to see if it really was scanning the file and finding a problem, or if it was rejecting it because it was zipped (which would be stupid).

I edited the file and emailed you back. Extract the zip file into the 'act2end' save I've already provided. The 'new npc' sections of the data file (described in the hex teleporting topic) will change the character appearance and learned skills. Since you are playing a mage hero, I also copied over sections for the stat/skill points (see here), so you could distribute them as you wish. Before doing that, in your original file I edited your characters' experience points to match what I had at the end of act 2, then got some experience points so the game would update their level (to 18). I also updated/opened the Shaman and Ethereal skill paths. When you load the game, a lot of the equipment will be disabled (due to minimum requirements), and you will be encumbered. I kept some older equipment, so you may be able to find stuff more suitable for a mage. Sort out what you may use and what you will not, give extra food, etc to a summoning doll, then visit the BF to sell excess stuff and look for mage equipment, if required. You can quicksave, enter the BF, check for equipment and then quickload if there is nothing there you can use.

Cool, thanks Reze!! I've sent an email to the Hotmail Support, and they say that they recently updated their anti virus software, and have given my a list of extensions that Hotmail won't allow to be attached. However, .Zip and .RAR aren't on it, so I've sent them another email and am awaiting a reply.
Just noticed, but my character's hair is short and white now, not long and green!! What's happening and how do I sort it?

Oops, I didn't notice that the hair didn't change when I replaced the character data (the portrait did). Playing at 1152x864 the character head isn't very big, so the hair doesn't stand out (especially wearing a helmet). I'll take another look at it tomorrow, and see if I can find where that data is stored.

Ok, thanks. I'll play with my other save just now and try to find the Rannaar Language books.

I edited the data file to change the hair colour and style, and re-uploaded it (same link).

Cool, so all I do is re-download it and replace the data.000 file? I'm going to do that now, but if there's anything else, I'll PM you.
Thanks a lot Raze
