OK.
I think I've played every possible permutation of Divine Divinity.
It seems like I may have to wait forever for DD2.
So...help??
I'm not an experienced gamer. I'm a role-player from waaa-aay back, so that's why DD appealed to me.
I want a new game, but have NO idea where to start.
I want a single-player (no obnoxious internet personalities to deal with...only my own), role-playing (not just combat or army strategics) PC game that will keep me as amused for as long as DD has.
Some of the ones I've considered - Baldur's Gate, World of Warcraft, Morrowind, Everquest - I haven't actually purchased because I know nothing about them.
Suggestions??
It's either this or I have to actually find a way to sleep until DD2 comes out!!

Welcome to the chat section of the forum. I hope we see more of you.
World of Warcraft and Everquest are not single-player.
I personally hated Morrowind, but I enjoy Oblivion a lot. There is a lot of combat though.
You might like Neverwinter Nights or Baldur's Gate.
Diablo II is a great game, but very weak on RP and heavy on hack and slash.

You could also read reviews at Gamespot--PC games

A lot of games have free demos that can be downloaded. Don't download demos from Gamespot though. This is a good site for demos.

You can check out RPGdot.com. Lots of reviews there.

Games I'd recomend is Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 (even though I didn't like them that much, thought there was too much combat), Planescape:Torment (my all time favorite cRPG), Fallout 1 & 2 and Arcanum. I'd allso like to recomend Vampire The Masqerade: Bloodlines, but if you're not an experienced gamer it MIGHT (note: might) be a bit difficult, due to the over-the-shoulder first person view combat in real time. Combat in VtM:B got a bit messy from time to time... Otherwise it's got great voice acting and some really nice quests. Anyway, these games doesn't rely so heavilly on combat only (though all games contain it's ammount of combat), which you might find nice .

I'd have to agree that checking reviews (here or elsewhere online) and then trying demos of any games that look promising would be the way to go. There are several 'best game' topics in this forum, such as Suggestions for a new RPG game.

Have you played Beyond Divinity?

You could perhapd try the Ultima 5 remake called Lazarus. RPGDot should have a link to it.

Beware : It's rather pure role playing, though. And you'll need Dungeon Siege for the graphics (engine).

Dungeon Siege is not a good game by the way.

More on the fighting side also, you can check out Sacred Gold. It's the original game including the expansion.

Here is a quote from GameStats that sounds interesting.

"Choose from an assortment of six characters including the Seraphim, Gladiator, Vampire, Battlemage, a Wood Elf, and a Dark Elf, each with unique fighting styles and special abilities. Various play options allow for online multiplayer, as well as an expansive single player quest, which boasts over 200 missions including side quests. Innovative additions to gameplay include environmental factors such as a day-to-night cycle, which will effect the abilities of the Vampire character (she takes the form of a knight by day, and draws on her vampire strengths at night)."

Check out the system requirements first to make sure you can run it. I have a Gforce2 video card and couldn't run the demo because I didn't support enough colors or something.

Yes, Sacred is quite good, played it myself and enjoyed it a great but, until the hacking & slashing became too boring to me.

But it has some nice features, for example characters riding and fighting from horseback. Even undead horses are there to be used for riding !

What always concerns me, however, is the thought of what could've become of the original Armalion game which Sacred was until its developer, Ikarion, went out of busoness and Ascaron bought the remains and made Sacred out of it.
Armalion was meant to be a full-blown RPG game, seriously, with no such an "hack-fest" like Sacred was later to be.

An insiders note : You can still see symbold in Sacred of the old Armalion game : There are still symbolds of the old "Dark Eye / Realms of Arcania" gods and goddesses there, because Armalion was built upon the "The Dark Eye" / "Realms of Arcania" RPG system and world. But since I think very few people know this system outside of Germany, a,lmost no-one would recognise these symbols in the game.

One example is a red circle with an arrow, often found on shierds. It looks a bit like the sign indicating male sex. This red sign is the sign of Rondra, the Goddess of war, honour and lighning in The Dark Eye.
Another sign in the "broken wheel", a wheel which looks like a wheel of an carriage or coach, but only that it is half an wheel. This represents the wheel if life, whgich is broken, and is the sign of the God of death and sleep, Boron. It can be found as floor tiles in very rare cases.

The shapes of the black cult members were in Armalion priests of Boron, and this goes for several other types of enemies as well.

In the German version of Sacred, me and Sisaya, who is here in the German section with the name Rei, are also in the game as NPCs (haven't ever discovered myself, though If someone has a picture for me, it is more than welcome. ).

Was the German version of Sacred bloody? To give it a teen rating in North America, they took the gore out with no option of having it on. Sacred still sounds cool that it's open ended to explore and all.

It seems people are starting to accept so called Diablo clones. Just for example, there are 49 player reviews for Sacred at Gamespot. Titan Quest has 190 player reviews of the game so far.

I know those stats don't really mean anything. It just shows it's time for hack n' slash players to move on or at least try something new.

I don't remember much blood in it, but I must say that I normally turn gore off by default. I don't like this very much. Okay, it looks more realistic, but I wanna have fun with a game, and no cruelty, so to say.

Besides, here Sacred was extremely popular.

You might consider "Neverwinter Nights".

Been playing this for awhile, since DD2 is still ready.

Great game, also look at wizardry 8.

Hmm it is a flash based website, so you may need to:
 • Allow cookies
 • If you are using Firefox get "NoScript" extension
 • If you are using IE, look at the top of the screen and select allow from the warning bar
 • If with Firefox you are using "AddBlock" whitelist the site
 • on Alriks advice (see Below) make sure you have the "Flash Plug in" installed
and last Not sure which connection you mean:
both use flash

Sounds trivial, but you forgot to mention that one needs the Flash Plug-In for the site.

If you have not played it: PLANESCAPE:TORMENT That is in my opinion the best CRPG of all time. Very much underappreciated. Imagine DD with a much deeper, rich storyline, a darker, quirkier, 'weirder' envrionment, and a more intellectual RPG experience, all while still being extremely fun and interesting. On a side note: I am in no way dissing DD.
