DD was my first RPG (I usually play adventure type games) and I loved every second of it, it is a truely great game and I can't wait for DD2. In the meantime can anyone recommend another RPG?

Morrowind, Diablo(maybe), Arcanum can't think of any more at the moment. Try a serch on google on Role Playing Games.
A shadow,
A movement
Is all you
Shall see,
When the icy,
Cold grip of death,
Holds you and brings you into,
The world of,
The dead

Baldurs Gate I & II (huge worlds, fun to play, I didn't like the expansion to the second one, mages were too powerful), Fallout I & II (awesome classics, see spick's post), Icewind Dale II (I just finished it, the first was boring, multiclassing is easier in this one), Diablo II with Expansion pack (I have been addicted to it for more than 2 years, I recommend multiplayer on closed realms, play hardcore if you like adrenaline rushes). I know I'm forgetting a bunch. All of these took MANY hours to complete (esp Diablo II, my wife claims that she is a D2 widow), and many can be found in bargain bins or at garage sales. IWD II is the newest of the lot I mentioned.
RPGs that I didn't like were Arcanum (cool concept, poor execution), Dungeon Seige (It just got tedious, and multiplayer stinks), Fallout Tactics (too hard in the beginning and wayyyyyy too easy towards the end), and Morrowmind the Elder Scrolls (the 3D was gorgeous, but it was totally non-linear and too big IMO).
Feel free to disagree. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif" alt="" />

I think all the good ones have been mentined. And i agree. But i have to say that Diablo1+2 are more hack and slash then a RPG. Baldur's gate1+2 and there add-ons are defently worth it. Actually most of the best rpgs are from Black isle and interplay. I recently finished fallout1 and i've nearly finished fallout2 there also worth bying.

No one recommended Planescape: Torment? I'm enraged. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
Although, if you "look forward" to Diablo 2, you probably won't like it one bit.

I do disagree about Morrowind, though you are right, it is vast and non linear. I like that though, sure it doesnt quite grip you the same way as a more tightly plotted game but the world of Tamriel has a deep and rich history and the game does a good job of incorporating you into that without pushing you down any specific path. Yes it is big, yes it is sprawling, but on the up side Ill still be playing it when Ive solved all my other RPG's.
I will call you "Squishy", and you will be my squishy! OW! BAD SQUISHY!

I DO HAVE TO AGREE THAT YOU NEED TO GIVE PLANESCAPE A TRY. ICEWIND 1&2, BG 1&2 ARE ALSO GREAT. ARCANUM GETS TOO EASY AFTER AWHILE AND THE QUESTS ARE STUPID. IF YOU LIKE A LITTLE SCI-FI TRY DEUS EX OR SYSTEM SHOCK 2. THE DIABLO SERIES IS COOL BUT ISN'T REALLY A RPG. NEVERWINTER IS AWESOME IF YOU CAN FIND A GROUP TO PLAY WITH. IT IS ALSO AN ENDLESS GROUPING OF MODS (GAME ADD-ONS). DON'T CHOOSE A GAME BECAUSE OF GRAPICS ALONE. THE MIGHT AND MAGIC SERIES IS OLD AND TIRED. THE ELDER SCROLLS SERIES IS TOOO OPEN-ENDED AND TOOO LONELY AFTER A WHILE.
Smile.....it's the second best thing you can do with your lips.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> Guys, there exists sth like a PM. So these kind of discussions can perfectly be done via a PM.
*MOD* to avoid confusion: I was talking about the last 4 posts...

Nox, Silver, Final Fantasy [really liked 7]and Hero's 3 of might and magic complete, Disciples 1 or 2.The last 2 were more of straudy[hate spelling]games. But fun.In Hero's you could have a freind over and play it on 1 computer, without going on line! Like a card game my turn then you're turn. Lots of fun.As you work up to killing each other OR playing as allies to kill off the computers NPC's

He just put a space between 'Plane' and 'scape' that's all....
