Those skills don't look that great...

So which ones to pick?

You only need one.
And that one is very obvious...

Excerpt from Sir_Toejam's mage advice
5. divine death - while most folks frown on the divine spells, this will take out any creature in the game, excepting the black ring bosses, even at level 1 (kill a 7500 hp dragon rider with one shot!), especially when combined with my absolute favorite and most utilitarian spell:
6. Curse (survivor path) - both of the curse spells are cumulative (i.e., you can cast them multiple times on a single character, and their resists will continue to go down - just cast repeatededly on them without stopping for at least 5-7 castings), but only this curse spell will lower spirit resistance, so you can use freeze, leech, or divine death on those high hitpoint, very dangerous critters.

This combination is very good for dragonriders. Divine Death kills normal imps at one blow - for mage/shaman their resistances have to be lowered.

There is one spell, as Setharmon mentioned, you need to proceed to the enddungeon - but this one you can get by staying polite from the black Dragon in the Wastelands.

But, Curse is not a divine skill it is from path of talents, or am I wrong?
I didn't know it is cumulative.
Thank you Kiya

Curse
Curse your enemies and let them suffer your wrath. To use, make the skill your active skill, and right click on your enemy.

Yes, that's right, Egin. I posted both to show the best combination.

Do you really need the ghost skill? My warrior walked around in the Black Lake for a minute or so, and only lost half his life bar. I suspect he could have run straight across without dying. Or is there some uncrossable area that can only be crossed in ghost form?

If you want to go to the entrance of the black ring dungeon, you need the ghost skill.

Depends on the version, in the older ones I was killed very quickly by wanderng around there. In the last versions 1.33/1.34 I could cross the swamp with ghost spell lvl 1 easily and then tried out lvl 2 to fill out the whole swamp part and explore the smaller islands. Even if I ran out of time I could quickly activate the spell again and explore further.

My impressions on that lake are that when you aproach it from west running on the coast touching the water - it hurts, but damage is not high.
After I turned into ghost form and flied to the east coast - there is that Black ring cave entrance I went to the coast and touched water again. I died as soon as I touched it.

So, I assume the further you go towards eastern coast with the cave, the more damage you get from that cursed -poisoned lake. I think, no way to cross it in human form.

Yes, no possibility as a human - even as a spider didn't work. But in the new version (1.33/1.34) I was able to reactivate the ghost spell and even explore the small islands north of the main island. This was not possible in the older ones, I died as quickly as you did

No, I didn't try frog form, I thought the spider could have some poison res... I might try it tonight - if Kroxy has a statuette, otherwise I'm lost. Why don't your try it?
Interesting? Just a camp fire, no treasure, but it was nice strolling across the lake and having a look at everything.

I die as soon as I touch east coast, so I guess, no chance in any form.

That was funny to fly past those friendly (green) ghosts being a ghost myself. It's shame I couldn't chit-chat with them

Which version, Egin? I made a clean install and just played with 1.33/1.34, no older save versions, how are yours? Maybe this could be a difference? I turned back to human in the middle of the water(!) and didn't die at once as in former versions.

I even donno. I installed the game long long ago. Then I made a long break until recently I started to play again. And I patched it once, so, it's 1.34 maybe.
All, I can say that I can pass water to the cave in one ghost-form-turn.

I would say personally that the Divine spells are all useless, with the obvious exception of the Ghost Form spell that you can get from the Dragon anyway.

Divine Death never worked on anything I tried it on, so I am guessing you need Curse to get it to work at all.
