I am in the dark cave, have rescued the boy, but now the door into the wampire is locked. and I cannot find the key ... Do any of you know where it is? I have been using the Alt-key around the place.

You need level 2 of Lockpick to open the door, or level 2 of Telekinesis to pull a lever inside the room (which will then open the door). If you join the thieves' guild in Verdistis, you can get 2 levels of Lockpick. Telekinesis spell books can be bought.

Free skills, and spell books you can buy (minor spoilers)

Thanks!

But your answer leads to another question, while going through old threads I found a list over Skills and levels, and levels of skills, that showed you for once had to reach a particular level to be able to reach a higher level in a specific skill. But - I am still unsure about how to gain the levels of the skills. One way is the books - but is it enough to read them or do you have to carry them with you? And apparently by doing specific things like joining guilds - But are there other ways? I am a mage level 15 and all my skills are level 1.
And then I have the identify skill which is passive - and I am not sure how it works - I still have to go to merchants to get different stuff identified - so what is the deal with this skill?

Bloo

PS - thanks Raze, for all your answers in all those threads - it´s very informative - and there are a lot of answers!

Each skill has 5 skilllevels, some skills you can learn from the start and to get the skill to level 2 you have to meet a level requirement. I.E.:You can learn Sword Expertise from the start of the game, but to increase it to level 2 you have to be level 7.
Other skills only become avaible at a certain level i.e. Deadly Gift level 1 can only be learned once you reach level 6. for level 2 of Deadly Gift you need to be level 12 IIRC.

Identify is indeed passive: when you hover over an item or press the alt-key the item will be identified if your Identify skill is high enough. So at the start of the game, you're not able to identify any unidentified items. When you get the first level of the Identify skill, you automaticly identify items with Identify level 1 when you hover over them. A text should appear: Item identified.
If you have only level 1 of the Identify skill, items which need level 2 and upwards to be identified will still be marked as unidentified, so you have to either raise your Identify skill, or let a merchant identify the item.

Thank you - it was indeed helpfull - I didn´t realize that you had to use skill points again to reach the next level (feel stupied - it is kind of obvious! )

And the alt key - I love it!!

Actually, you don't. I'm not sure if this is a bug or a bonus, but if you have level 1 of Sword Expertise and save and reload the game, you will have level 2. The male warrior starts off with this skill, but other characters need to put the first skill point in themselves to get the extra level.

Once you have a spell book in your inventory, clicking on it will teach you the skill level and the book will disappear, so the only reason to carry a spell book around is if you want to sell it (you don't want that spell, or you already have it maxed).
