What is the use of Rope? I find it many places, but never know where to use it?

Same for Chemist's knives and herbs...They look interesting, but I don't know what to do with them.

And how do you escape from prison when you are caught 'stealing something'? It seems funner (and less of a reputation hit) to just kill all the guardsmen nearby.

Oh, and I do enjoy this game! I'm just rediscovering it!

Thanks!

Chemist's knives / herbs and most rope are not useful (except as atmosphere). The only 4 rope in the game that you need are close to where you will need them, in the easter egg area.

Silver Armour and Treasure Maps

I always saved before attempting to steal, so never got thrown in jail. Depending on the jail you may be able to find a lockpick in the cell. A technique for getting Commander Ralph out of his back room (if you had entered previously and gotten kicked out) involves leaving a teleporter stone in the cell before trying to enter his room and letting yourself get arrested.

Thanks,

The maps for the treasure map quest really help too!

I guess I should clarify what I meant by 'stealing'. I get caught for 'stealing' when I pick up dead soldier drops around the barracks. Of course, I don't know which ones are from the soldiers and which ones are from the orcs...It was annoying until I decided to attack all the soldiers.

I usually save before pickpocketing too, but I don't pickpocket very much.

If you agree to do a couple quest for the army, you can pick up whatever you want around the barracks (at least until you finish the quests).

There is an exploit for stealing, though it may make it easy enough not to be fun anymore. I think this also works for Pickpocketing, but the only time I tried picking someone's pocket was for a quest (where you have no chance of being caught anyway).
Spoiler : If you place a container in your inventory and open it, then drag and drop loot into the container it is not considered stealing, so you can simply walk away. It is considered stealing when you remove the items from the container, though, so make sure you are alone when you do so. If you have not joined the thieves' guild yet, the lowest weight container is a sack of grain. (highlight the text to read)
