Hi, i read that Beyond Divinity received a patch that allowed the game to run without having to have the CD in the drive.

Is there anything I can do to run this game without the cd in the Drive? I have a retail copy that I bought, please let me know, I don't know why they didn't add a patch that allowed it to work without it like Beyond Divinity.

There is a configuration file edit to skip the intro videos (see here), which you may want to do after you have seen them at least once.
With the latest game version, this will also eliminate the need for the Play CD, except for a couple cases (the blessing ceremony, after hitting the gong late in the game, and at the end of the game). These are the same limitations as with the no-CD hack.
The version number is shown in the bottom right corner of the main menu (latest is 1.0034A, otherwise you may need the patch). The DVD version has already been updated, CD versions may or may not be, depending on when they were produced.

Thanks for the welcoming hehe

I have version 1.0034A and when I start the game it still says "please insert disc 3 cdplay disc". This is for Divine Divinity, so if I'm missing anything please let me know, thanks.

Did you add the 'startup logo 0' line to the very end of the config.div file? If so, you need to hit Enter before saving; the game expects the last line to be blank, and ignores it. Sorry, I thought that was mentioned in the topic I linked to, but apparently not.

Ok, I opened Divine Divinity Folder > Run > I found the Config.Div file, so should I type " Startup logo 0 " without the quotes at the end of with no space?

like this Config.DivStartup logo 0?
When i click the actual file it cant be opened, so I guess i just type Startup logo 0 right after Div.

To open the file, select it and right click: choose "open with" and from the list of options, choose "Notepad".

Thanks for helping, still need a bit more help, can't get it to work, heres my config list for Config.Div

// display width
width 1024

// display height
height 768

// activate smooth mode
smooth 1

// global contrast
contrast 1.000000

// global gamma
gamma 1.300000

// enable quickstart
quickstart "on"

// use compressed image lists
images compressed

// use flat file system
flat files

// enable/disable z-tunneling
ztunnel 1

// set the memory limit
memory limit 32

// enable/disable the use of bitmapped fonts
use8bitfont 1

// disables fog rendering
//no fog

// set the color mode
rgb 565

// Select alpha bit
Alpha bit 0

// Startup logo 0

I added the ( // Startup logo 0 ) at the end, which is probably the wrong way to do it since its not working when I start up the game.

You are close. delete the "// " before the "startup logo 0", and make sure there is a blank line after that. The lines starting with // are comments, which the game ignores.

Thanks, got it to work. Is there any Starforce program or anything that was installed from the game that I should remove?

I don't recall if the patched game installs any copy protection drivers (don't think so). When I got a DVD-RW drive a few years ago I tested it by zipping the DD folder and burning it to DVD-R (with a few other things tossed in). Now if I need to uninstall the game to free up space, or whatever, I can reinstall simply by unzipping it.

In any case, there have not been any problems reported with the copy protection used in DD, so if anything was installed it shouldn't hurt to leave it until you finish the game and uninstall DD.
